Perhaps limited interest. I found this on Youtube.
I have a copy on VHS, but haven't transferred it over yet.
This is a short film made by Central TV in 1990 - when they closed the bulk of the Film Unit down. In the day, the Film Unit was housed in at the studios in Birmingham; and had a Film Lab, a couple of preview cinemas (see TV studio thread) and 5 fully staffed 16mm camera units, who were assinged to News, Documentaries, Schools and Filmed projects.
By 1991, this was staffed by freelancers scattered about the midlands. By this time, news was on Betacam (and had been since around 1985), but Docs, Features and Schools Programmes were still on film.
A handful of the people in this video - the technicians at least, I had the pleasure to work with during my time there. Most of the clips date from ATV era from around 1964 up to around 1980.
Observant viewers will spot:
Chris Tarrant - circa 1973 Derek Hobson - in his local news reporter hat.
Trevor East - Ex Derby Co Player who worked on Tiswas and ATV-Sport.
Bev Smith - Ex AA chap who became ATVs Transport correspondent.
Terry Thomas - The Fisherman Geoff Meade - (Now at Sky) Anne Diamond is in there too.
Much of it only really relatable to those who watched ATV and Central.
The Camera Operator with the ginger hair, big beard is Ian Hollands - and is still quite busy today.
He worked on "Woof" and "Boon".

Forgot to mention, also in the video there is a young Terry Lloyd; (Brother of Kevin) - who was then a reporter for ATV, based in Derby. Terry went to work for ITN and was sadly killed in Iraq back in 2003.

Michael Caine talks about some of the London gangsters he's met throughout his life, in this four minute video.

Came across a few of these as a selection from the BBC Archive YT channel, some of which you might like. Custom Built 'Fastest' Rolls Royce
Driverless Cars from 1971
The Making of Porridge, Blue Peter interview
Fawlty Towers/John Cleese interview, 1977
Blade Runner reviewed on Film 82
Bob Hoskins "London Sterilised by Greed" interview 1982
Ayrton Senna BBC Breakfast interview 1985
It seems the uploads have only just come on stream in the last 6 or so months or so so hopefully lot more will get added by the BBC in the coming months. Like anything there's a fair bit of filler here but hopefully like the semi- official Thames Archive might get some more good snippets soon.

I was only looking at the BBC Archive on YouTube a few days ago. I was fascinated by this eleven minute film of the 1953 Coronation procession route done the day before the event. Sixty nine years is a long time yes, but it's amazing how different London was then only eight years after the end of WW2.

Hopefully the BBC will add a bit more to this YT channel, I think they had something similar on their website but generally had not much on it and have in my opinion had been a bit poor in providing access to it's archives.

One of the things I like about YouTube are those videos by dedicated fans who are knowledgeable about a subject and spend their time compiling their own take.
I have had the film Here We Go Round The Mulberry Bush starring Barry Evans on my media player for years and haven't yet got round to watching it, but discovered this today about Barry's life which gives a few facts I hadn't been aware of before. Not a professional video, just a well put together effort from an obvious fan.

Nightfly, I remember the writer and film historian Jonathan Rigby talking about Barry Evans' life and tragic end on a Blu-ray commentary for one of the films he appeared in. I think it was probably the 1970 made Pete Walker thriller he starred in with Susan George called Die Screaming, Marianne.

Thanks Vi - will seek this one out. It's always sad to hear the stories of how a popular actor can fall on hard times when then suddenly find they're out of favour with casting directors etc.
