I wonder if the ACTT had a copy of this for playing back at their AGMs... There's a BBC staff christmas tape out there somewhere, that features clips similar to this - always wondered where they got them clips from. Not that rare if this other clip is anything to go by. From an actual rehearsal this time with Noel Edmonds helping out a fake David Essex. This one has gallery talkback and some impressive bar counting from the PA on the Pan's People routine. The term "Rare" seems to get over used these days - it's used a lot on YT for getting people to click on a link.
On Auction websites, it's used as an excuse to bung a few zeros on the end of the price.
The BBC used to record all kinds of pilots, many were never actually broadcast - they'd end up either in private collections of staff, or clips would be used in the Xmas compilation tapes that would be shown via the internal lines to all the BBC stations across the country - and also some ITV companies would "patch in" too.
There was a series on TV during the 1980s - can't remember which channel, what it was called, or who presented it - but it was dedicated to Pilot series, and the entire programme was made up of clips from Pilots. Sadly, it got a little spoiled when they ran out of clips and ended up raiding USA and worldwide archives - and we'd end up with a clip from a Ukraine Pilot for a spin off of Only Fools and Horses.....
ITV have a tape containing screen tests for each of the lead characters in Auf Pet, shot when casting, by ATV, sometime in 1981. I've only seen a couple of clips from it, none seems to have surfaced on YT. So chances are, it's locked away in a vault. Amazing that they went to the trouble of doing screen tests - considering the cost and time factor - it's usually reserved for Feature Films.

Kids saying Peggy Babcock repeatedly came into my head the other day, I thought it was from Swap Shop but no it was a regular feature on Razzmatazz. This clip incongruously features South African trumpet player Hugh Masekela

I remember him as a presenter on Radio Tees in the 70s. There was a rumour in the early days of the internet in the mid 90s that he had died and several years later his daughter discovered the posts and confirmed he was still alive and well. He had left the entertainment industry to do social work, although he did pass away in 2017.

Later Razzmatazz presenters included Brendan Healy, probably best known to us as the bloke who asks a sleeping Oz to cough up some money for 'the pliot like' on Auf W Pet. Suzanne Dando & Lisa Stansfield also presented it, I saw Dando on a Give Us A Clue the other day, I'd forgotten all about her. In fact one of the mimes on a show I watched was for Razzmatazz.
I half remember it, watching clips it looks like a junior version of The Tube.

Suzanne Dando came to our school once for some nationwide sports thing (Brian Jacks went to my sisters school), got a photo and a kiss, made my day

The 40 Minutes documentaries the BBC used to produce were always a good watch and this one from 1982 follows a couple of reps in Benidorm dealing with typical knotted hanky British visitors.
Interesting to read in the comments that the scene with the two Spanish Romeos making their moves on two girls who had supposedly just got off the plane was set up. Apparently they were two British girls who were working in a Benidorm bar who were approached and paid by the crew to create the scene.

Spotted this compilation of beer adverts from the 70s; interesting just how many brands have disappeared.
Forum members may be interested in the appearance [or voice] of a number of actors who appeared in The Sweeney, Minder and other classic TV of the era.
Cheers!

I found this to be an interesting documentary and time capsule of a club band trying to hit the big time back in 1976. It follows a week in the life of band from Bradford called Punch as they tour the smokey social clubs 7 nights a week and fit in an audition for Opportunity Knocks.
They passed the audition then had one single which didn't do anything before splitting up shortly after. There are shades of Creme Brule/ League of Gentlemen in the documentary, but they seemed quite decent.
