Been watching Space 1999 recently, and realising how brilliant the storylines are! And don’t think that, they was any other Sci-fi at the time or even now, for a matter of fact, can touch it, regarding this.. what is equally as good, is the opening titles and the music! to, like where it shows commander Koenig’s picture and plays a ensemble of trumpets..Also Where, like a lot of tv series you get a short intro before the titles, but in this instance you get the two combined and where it will say on the screen ‘ This episode’ and then show screen grabs from that particular episode. what I’d forget, to my disappointment, about Space 1999’ is that in the 2nd series- which was the final one, they completely changed it around and did away with the into and and also just showed the same opening titles’ in each episode! This I think, spoilt the pace of the episode a bit! I can’t understand why they did this, considering they were only two series anyway, and you would normally expect this to happen after a few series, in an attempt to revamp/excite the series. This got me thinking about a well known tv series we all love and familiar with called The Sweeney! Yes I know they did this in the fourth series which would go onto be the final one! And where they go on from the familiar blue tinged intro’ we all love, for the first 3 series, to the completely different, weird Prism style and where ya can hear footsteps.. Again I think this was a huge mistake! But that’s just my opinion. So is there any other similar examples with tv series like these two, that the forum members agree or not agree are better

Agree, S1 for me too.
As to plots, not sure I’d agree! A few good ones but most were rather poor IMO.
Z Cars theme changed and was awful at the end, the played the original on the last ever episode.

Music wise I think I prefer the second Space 1999 theme.
The Sweeney series 4 is the best example I can think of in terms of 'if it aint broke don't fix it'.

I remember watching this on ITV in the early 80s but didn't recall the theme tune. Having just watched them I got to say the second intro is snappier and the graphics better but they are both good. Only Fools And Horses was the best upgrade of a theme tune that i can think of. I remember in the 80s there was grumbles regarding the You & Me theme being updated from its 70 version. Back to Space 1999 did this make it to dvd ?

Space 1999 is on blu ray Del, don't own it myself but judging by screenshots I've seen it is an amazing HD job.
Sitcoms were always changing titles, suppose they had to to keep things fresh if the show had several series.
