All tv channels are trying to give us different and interesting films to watch while we are all home.
Our SBS channel has been advertising the 'best of Britain' week but are they the best ? Well it is one programmer's opinion.
Here is their snapshot of British cinema for Aussie viewers:
Life of Brian Sexy Beast Bend it like Beckham Withnail and I Chariots of Fire The Long Good Friday Harry Brown Time Bandits Monty Python's meaning of Life Monty Python and the holy grail
The secret of Moonacre A fish called Wanda A streetcat named Bob The King's speech The Damned United
I watched 'Harry Brown' as I hadn't seen it before.
It is a strong performance by Michael Caine. Initially it seemed very well shot with nice monochromatic scenes with Michael Caine looking out of a broken window, lots of close facial shots, visually emotional... and then he goes to buy a gun ! Wow it all changed then.

A few of those films have been on the box here BG and a fairly decent selection there. Harry Brown's another of those films I've never got around to but should hopefully soon.

There are some good films in there Batgirl, I can't say I've seen or can recommend them all but there seems to be a Monty Python trend with five that I know of being directly Python or associated with members of the Monty Python team. Stand-out films there for me are The Long Good Friday, Sexy Beast and Harry Brown. Expect very strong language from the last two. Ben Kingsley's character, Don Logan, in Sexy Beast can best be described as obnoxious but makes the film for me. The Long Good Friday has some very familiar faces in, for some, their first film roles. I love this film and posted a Then and Now thread on it a couple of years ago: >>> LGF Then and Now <<<Sam.

Another vote here for "Sexy Beast" and "The Long Good Friday". I can also recommend "Life Of Brian" (watch out for the brief cameo by George Harrison who helped fund the film) & "A Fish Called Wanda", they'll certainly bring a smile to your face after watching the other two
