Very sad news indeed about Tony and despite being a bit part/background character Bill was a great addition to The Sweeney and he had his moments too probably thanks to John and Dennis encouraging Tony to have a few lines and a profile in the show too. RIP Tony thanks for your contributions to The Sweeney, TV generally and being good old Bill.

RIP Tony, very sad to read about this.
By all accounts he was a man full of wit on set, you can see that in some of his wry smiles!
I'm sure NHK will fondly remember the way you drove him.

RIP Tony Allen, one of Sweeney folklore's most famous faces along with Regan, Carter, Haskins and NHK, another who "made" The Sweeney what it was. Although he was more of an actor than a stunt driver, I'm sure he put his foot down in a few scenes in episodes where the camera was closer!
Long time friend of John Thaw's too, and I believe continued to work as his dresser later on, including behind the scenes in Morse. Careful spotters would also recognise him in the background, or walk on parts in other films and TV work, including Carry On's, The Professionals, and "Bill" seemed to get a bit of secondment work, as a CI5 man and as a squad driver in "Target" too.

Sad news! Out of 53 episodes He drove that car enough times in the Sweeney! Along with having one or two minor speaking parts! So he should have had his name in the credits!!! With out a doubt. RIP. Tony Allen

Some good comments on here. about Bill. I too liked Tony's character in The Sweeney. I also am sure he'll be catching up with his 'Guv' up there.
RIP Tony. .
