I read that the Church Of England are encouraging people to leave their trees & decorations up Also the woman who started the clap for carers announced that it's starting up again. I'm not convinced these tactics help people in the long run, isn't it better for people's wellbeing to keep things as normal as possible? The Queen & celebs might think they know what's best for the public but they live in a different world from most of us.
During the first lockdown, a few in my road started with he clapping for carers, which was OK for the first few weeks but then descended into various neighbours taking the opportunity to creep closer and closer to one another and the next thing you know, 4 or 5 families were gathered together on one drive without any distance between them. It's taking the p***, while boiling mine at the same time. Gene. Only a few on our street started clapping for carers during Lockdown #1, and the same happened - it ended up with 5 or 6 families gathered on one drive, no social distancing.
I find it funny that the person who started the clap for Carers/NHS thing - stopped it as she felt it had got too Political.
How many will go out on their driveways in the freezing weather - to risk catching Flu/nasty colds each evening? Also - wouldn't it be better awarding the NHS frontline staff with something they really deserve - a suitable payrise?

Inevitably many health workers came to resent the clap, seeing it as both patronising ( 'don't thank me for doing my job' ) & a distraction from the debate over working hours & pay. Still, people meant well when they gave them the clap.
I never gave them the clap because I have no desire to get pally with any of my neighbours

This should possible go into things that *** you but the clapping paved the way for other similar doorstep shennanigans. For example, at Christmas certain people on my estate rang bells at 6pm to "help Santa on his way"

I don't think we need the clapping again, the clappees started to resent it anyway.
It's all been done last year, it doesn't help, move on.

To put things into perspective, 80,868 people have now died from Covid-19. That's nearly 1,000 more than could fill the Olympic Stadium for the 2012 Olympics :-

It'll be 100K fairly soon, can't see it being much below 130k before it really tails off.

We are only now really starting to apply the brakes by means of vaccine. It'll take some time before the speed scrubs off. Hopefully then the numbers will recede and eventually Covid will be no more than but hopefully less than a danger than common flu.
Stay safe and stay home everyone.
Gene.

I see it as my duty to give members a chance to get together once we are lawfully allowed to do so Trust the Gene Genie.

Measures such as Lockdowns / Vaccines etc need time before it is reflected in the "data" - and then the data needs to show a continual fall in numbers of infection and admissions to hospital. It angers me when people pop up on TV 24 hours after a Lockdown or a Vaccine being first rolled out - that the numbers aren't falling.
Boris & Co are pretty confident that (quote) "The world will be a different place" by April, and even Hancock has even publicly stated that Lockdown 3 will be the last. So - we'll see.
Mind you - with Korea threatening US with a Nuclear strike yesterday - I suppose old Boris could just be right... Protect & Survive anyone?
