I recently acquired a couple of BBC Handbooks from the 1960s. The first few publications featured adverts for various appliances.
1960
Even Eamon Andrews got in on this one...
So good, even the Queen had one...
Did anyone have a Cinema Organ in their house?

A new Hi-Fi!
Anne Summers sell something similar to this (aparently)
I'd rather drink Scotch...
Tony Hancock selling Insurance.... (The Harvey Keitel of his day perhaps?)
Yep - A remote control TV!

The "Walter" Mains/Battery powered Reel-Reel recorder from 1961 must have been one of the first released for home use that could use a Battery.
Prior to this - the Film Industry had been using battery operated UHER and Nagra battery operated Reel-Reel recorders for recording location sound & dialogue. Both machines were very expensive, and were based on Military Spec technology.
Incidentally - both the UHER and Nagra were in use widely on Films and TV location work up until recently. (You can still get them!)
The "Sweeney" initially used a UHER machine, then they progressed to a Nagra machine which offered more features suited to what they were up to.
