Tears For Fears - Songs From The Big Chair 1985
Tears for Fears album Songs From The Big Chair was very successful at the time and was the second one I ever bought. Having just listened to it for the first time since the 90's , I think its sound is alongside its contemporaries Duran Duran and Level 42. Its sound to me is a progression from the synth bands from the early 80's. Its has the synth sound mixed with up-tempo beats, guitar and bass and it all comes together to give the music a very 80's identity. Taken from the Wiki page Songs From The Big Chair - Tears for Fears "Songs from the Big Chair is the second studio album by the British rock band Tears for Fears, released on 25 February 1985 by Phonogram Records. The album peaked at number two in the UK and number one in the US. It spawned a string of international hit singles, including "Mothers Talk", "Shout", "Everybody Wants to Rule the World", and "Head over Heels". It remains their best-selling album to date." A few of my favourites from the album are below ShoutThe Working Hour

'Shout' I remember as a very distinct single at the time. Sounding very modern with a powerful recording technique, similar to what Trevor Horn was doing.
I don't know why, they should have been a bit greater than they were. Their low profile after 1985 didn't help, but then again maybe the music they had been doing wouldn't be suited to the glossy blandness of the late 80s.
