Here's a quick one! I believe this location also appeared in Dad's Army As Rupert and Ruth were on a mystery tour around Suffolk, I asked them to drop me off at Ixworth Mill, part of what is now a self-catering B & B called The Watermill. Unfortunately, the gate was locked when I arrived and, as it was late spring, the trees were nearly fully green so I couldn't get a good smudge. However, I managed to get a picture of the place where Oliver Cromwell (Patrick Wymark) is seated and seen eating with his troops. Richard Marshall is promoted to Captain and meets General Cromwell who tells him to go back with his colleagues into East Anglia and look for the King... Ixworth Mill, Thetford Road, Ixworth THEN NOW Vi

Good stuff Vi, looks like the same wood lapping is there. Bet that's seen a few layers of varnish since filming. I'm also pretty sure Rigsby would prefer a mystery tour around Miss Jones

Historic Lavenham is where the burning of the witch scenes were filmed, so on my arrival it was time for some more smudges. Rupert was booked into the Swan Inn with Ruth, but in separate rooms. I slept with Miss Jones - although not in the same bed, just on the chair! Accused of witchcraft, Elizabeth Clark is burned in the Market Place, Lavenham, Suffolk THEN NOW A bit quieter today Sara, who is waiting for Richard in Lavenham, looks out of a window from the nearby Little Hall Museum, Lavenham THEN NOW Viewed from a different angle Hopkins and a local magistrate watch the burning of Elizabeth outside The Guildhall, Market Place, Lavenham THEN NOW A National Trust property Sara is later spotted in town by Hopkins and Stearne... Water Street, Lavenham NOW Vi

The boarding house short break in East Anglia ended with a trip to Orford Castle near to the Suffolk coast. As a member of English Heritage Ruth got in for less than the £8 that Rupert had to dig into his pocket for, whilst I sneaked in to take a smudge or two from one of the final scenes from the film. Richard and Sara are captured in Lavenham by Hopkins and Stearne and are taken to the castle... THEN Orford Castle NOW Sara and Richard await their fate in the dungeon... Eventually trooper Swallow comes to the rescue! THEN In the castle dungeon NOW Vi

I was reading a comment on YouTube about this film several months ago which had been put up by an American guy. He said he was in Hawaii when the film was first shown. He actually said it was the film's premier which sounds strange ? Anyway the bloke said Vincent himself was advertised as making an appearance at the cinema when the film was over. The guy said he didn't believe it would happen as the cinema wasn't a big fancy one, but sure enough after the film was over Vincent was in the foyer signing photos of himself. The guy said Vincent was very friendly and spoke at length to him and his pal about the film. I just thought is was strange that the films American premier was in Hawaii? He must have meant the Hawaiian Premier perhaps?

Sounds very odd Charles. Not sure where the British premiere was or even if there was one.
Btw the historical novel on which the film is based is very good indeed & I've only discovered recently that there are in fact 3 sequels to it featuring the descendents of the characters played by Ian Ogilvy & Hilary Dwyer. The first sequel is called 'Amourous Trooper', the second is 'Rebecca's Brat' & the third is 'Kill The Stuart'. Written by Ronald Bassett who specialised in historical & military fiction.
