Never watched it. I assumed it was going to be yet another of those twee, home counties middle class sitcoms which were common at one time and pretty much universally crap, like the Upper hand, Terry and June and so on. I caught up with bits of it recently on you tube and it's probably a bit different and had bits of surrealism in it here and there. Also, Belinda Lang was quite nice!

Yeah did watch these way back. It was reasonably good but one of those ones I'd not really consider good enough to want to get too excited over. But much, much worse has been revered than 2 Point 4 over the years! It was the last proper acting role for the late Gary Olsen too. RIP.

Annie and I used to watch this most weeks when it was first broadcast. It was never a side-splitting comedy but light-hearted and easy viewing after a day's graft. It was sad to hear of Gary Olsen's death at the time and I would have liked to have seen him develop more into other roles but I thought that at that stage the program had run its course.
After reading the opening post I checked out the other cast members on IMDB and it is hard to think of Bill and Ben's son as being 41 years old now, he was only 14 when it started. And going back to Gary Olsen he was a bit young to appear in The Sweeney but he did appear for one episode each alongside Dennis Waterman in Minder and alongside John Thaw in Mitch.
Sam.
