Sad to report that John Haynes, the founder of the Haynes manuals and the Motor Museum in Sparkford, Somerset died on Friday. www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/john-haynes-dead-motoring-legend-13985939Although not a figure that appeared much in the public eye, John created the Haynes manuals that so many of us have used over the years when manufacturers' manuals have not been available or have left a lot to be desired. His success with the publications allowed him to amass a truly enviable collection of cars and bikes, many of which are displayed in the Sparkford museum. I've certainly bought many manuals over the years for cars and bikes and they've enabled me as a home mechanic to get back on the road more than once. R.I.P. John

RIP John and thanks for the idea that is your manuals, always bought the appropriate one for which car I've bought and so did my dad. I still have his for his old HC Viva and have them for my Escort and different Astras I've had.

I bought and used a few Haynes Manuals in the days when cars could be repaired without having to use computers etc to diagnose faults.
