A good race today although we only had two horses in the race after the opening laps but at least they were from different teams. Mercedes and Hamilton got things spot on today so full marks to them. Verstappen and Honda did an amazing job and were so close to pulling another race win out of the hat and was only 3 laps short of achieving it. Why did they not pit when Hamilton did? They must be kicking themselves still its great to see them being competitive at the top of the grid. Oh dear Ferrari wasn't in it at all and were so bad Mercedes and later Red Bull had a free pit stop in the later stages! Bottas had a mare too.
All in all it was a good race on this great older track and I hope the competitive racing continues in the second half of the season.

Currently sat just ahead of P1 grid slot at the Hungaroring. Weather is warm, track bone dry. This is a circuit I'd be happy to return to. Gene. Sounds like an excellent position. Looking forward to your pics and report when you return.

Sorry for the delay, but I've only just arrived home. Here are a few smudges I took at the excellent Hungarian Grand Prix last weekend. It was a track I'd always wanted to go to and it certainly didn't disappoint. The day started early with a taxi ride out from Budapest town over to the Hungaroring which was about 40 minutes away. There were already a few fans arriving when we got there but I managed to keep most of them out of shot for this picture of the main entrance. Use the arrows to scroll through the photos. https://www.instagram.com/p/C2H1Z-EoiAi Between races, I took a few shots looking across into the pits. https://www.instagram.com/p/C2H1xG5onhn The race was really good, with an atmosphere that rivaled if not surpassed that of Silverstone a few weeks before. Though there was a massive following for pole sitter Max Verstappen, there was certainly a good many Brits in the crowd, as well as other nationalities that were cheering on Lewis, the eventual winner. The podium: https://www.instagram.com/p/C2H2Cl3ofZV Finally, a short video clip of the celebrations on the podium: A fantastic race that I'd thoroughly recommend to anyone who ever wants to travel abroad to see an F1 event. In fact, I can also thoroughly recommend Budapest as a destination on it's own. It really is a beautiful place. https://www.instagram.com/p/C2H2L5GoAZ2 Gene.

Thanks for posting these Gene. You certainly had a great seat to watch the race. It was an enjoyable race to watch here but it must of been a good experience to watch it live from the main stand with all the engine noise and atmosphere from the crowd The place looks fantastic. I'd definitely like to visit the city.

Great pics. Very interesting to see your pics and views of the Hungarian race. Thanks for sharing Gene. I worked with a Hungarian woman for years and she always told me that one day I must visit Budapest because it is a wonderful city. Certainly sounds like it is. You had a great spot in the grandstand opposite the garages on the main straight. That is my preferred spot to view the action as there is so much to see. You've captured such clear and close shots of the cars in the garage. Seeing them so close when you are there just makes the F1 experience seem really personal doesn't it. I know I've felt that when I have gone to the Melb. F1. Watching on telly I enjoyed the race. Hamilton taking on Verstappen who had lead the race for so long was exciting. I like to see Hamilton have to work for his wins as if he starts from pole position we don't get to really see his skill. It must be a more satisfying win when you haven't lead the whole way (I think so anyway). One thing I don't understand (viewing from Australia and maybe not understanding the big fan base) is why are there so many fans in orange ? I get that they are following Verstappen but are they all Dutch fans for him who follow the races in Europe or are they following Red Bull as a team as it is a European company?

Thanks Batgirl Verstappen does have a big following, but some of the orange was for McLaren too. There is also the fan who likes the look of particular merchandise but support a driver from another team. Next to us in the Grandstand were a family of 5 Vettel fans, but they were all wearing Red Bull shirts. Next to us were two Verstappen fans but they were wearing brand new Ferrari shirts. All said and done though - and I'm sure you've found the same in Australia, rival fans are very friendly towards each other. There is no hint of unpleasantness between rival fans at all. I thoroughly recommend Budapest for a city break. It is stunningly beautiful and relatively cheap to eat & drink. Gene.

The tv commentators always talk of the Dutch fans so I 'forgot' about orange McLaren. Actually I wouldn't mind seeing McLaren improve a bit. Yes I love that about the fans at the races. I myself had a Red Bull hat (from previous years when Dan Ric. was there) and a Ferrari jacket (because I love Ferraris as cars themselves) and I nearly bought myself a green Mercedes tshirt last year at the track. Lol What a mix. I agree in that I didn't find any rivalry between the fans in the stands or the food queues or around the track.
