Here's another that I thought was a mistake.
Karen Carpenter had such smooth vocals in so many of The Carpenters' tracks but despite those vocals this one really drags for me as it is too laboured and too slow. I'm sure that there must be many Beatles purists that feel the same:

I actually quite like that version. Prefer it to the original (runs and hides!)

I love most of The Carpenters music but for me Ticket to Ride is a Beatles song and the Beatles version is far superior Steed

Dave Stewart and Barbara Gaskins awful 1981 version of Lesley Gores Its my party. I'd forgotten about this but it turned up on the radio today

I must admit that I don't mind the Dave Stewart and Barbara Gaskins version, sure it is not as good as the original but I don't think it worthy for Room 101.
How about this version instead? This has to be Room 101 material:
Almost but not quite as bad is Bryan Ferry's version:

Heard this one for the first time tonight on RTE Gold, usually a station which isn't afraid to delve into rare oldies, but I really wish they hadn't with this. I don't mind Sinatra but some songs you just shouldn't cover and if you do, stick to the original lyrics and don't make up your own, however big a star you are ....

Agree with you on that one Night. I've never been keen on Sinatra as a singer personally, he was good, but just too mor for me.

Can it be considered a "cover" if an original artist from a duet then decides to duet with another singer?
Whether it is or not, Elton did this abomination:
It cropped (or is that "crapped") up on one of the music channels last night, needless to say I soon changed channels.

That is appalling, agreed, and the original with Kiki Dee is so good, the sound of that great summer of 76 imo.
