Just suppose it became possible, but you are only allowed one day away from the present. Where and when would you go for your day trip?
There are all sorts of possibilities, I mean you could go to Germany just after the First World War, and go and find Adolf Hitler, who was then unknown, and kill him, thus, hopefully preventing world war 2, or to the Titanic and shout “look out for the icebergs” a couple of hours before it hit one! Or, forward in time to half eight on Saturday night, to get the winning lottery numbers, then back to Spar for the ticket!
Mine though would just be to spend a day in my old home town, Radcliffe, in about May or June 77, go back to our old house, take a look at the traffic, with a stream of Vivas, Cortinas, Avengers etc, another trip on one of Manchester’s old orange buses and the train to Manchester Victoria, and, obviously another try with that gorgeous girl at the paper shop I used to really fancy at that time!😁
Maybe this would best confined to having a mooch round interesting places, interfering with big players in history such as Hitler, Stalin, Roosevelt or Churchill could have all sorts of unknown consequences.

So many options with that one Carty. The sting is only having the one day which makes it very difficult to pick. That said, I think I'd have to go back to one of the red hot summer days of 1976. I'd definitely take a video camera with me and fill it with hours of traffic driving around town, filming that long gone old fashioned atmosphere of a public bar etc.
If however the chance arose to just go back to any date and live it from that day onwards, I'd go for January 1st 1970. What a decade I'd be in for!
Gene.

One day only then I would probably go back to my year of birth 1975, spend a day round London in the summer enjoying the era, riding on Routemaster buses and spotting the then brand new classic motors! If I could pick a few different days then it would probably one day from 30, 40 and 50 years ago - so 1988, 1978 and 1968. Great idea for a thread Cartman! The Saint

I think I'd like to go back to the late 50's to the village me & my dad grew up in to see if he was as much of a lad as everyone says he was. I'd also like to see how it looked a decade or so before I was born and 20 years before I appreciated it. I think it would be great to step into a proper pub too, relax and enjoy the craic. One day's not enough though. I think about it a lot and I'd like to go back permanently, probably to be in my early 20's around the end of the 60's/early 70's.

If I could go back permanently I would want a continuous loop, with me in my early 20s, starting in the late 50s, and staying in real time until about 1981, then looping back to the 50s.

Ooh so many possibilities! Some ideas I would have;
Go back to Manchester in the "real" 1973 and see what the town then was really like!! Perhaps have a mooch past a certain police station out of interest! There's a good chance a brown MK3 GXL may be in the car park!! Common car then after all.......
I'd actually also like to have a trip round Luton all day in 1976 on a warm summers day and see what my local area I grew up in and the town centre would look like and see if it would jog childhood memories. Window shop in the new car dealers and see gleaming new final year MK3 Cortinas in the Tricentrol Ford showroom and other showrooms like BL (Oliver Rix) or Vauxhall (Shaw and Kilburn).
Another trip would be to wait outside the church my parents were married in September 1968, Cranbrook, Kent, and watch the newlyweds coming out, have a proper pint in the local pubs there in that picturesque town.
Also in the same town, to pop round sometime around 1976 to see my late Grandparents old house where they lived, and look at the area.
Couple more things;
Attend a London Earls Court motor show any year in the 70's -
And finally see the band The Jam in their early days performing in The Sweeney pub in Hammersmith, The Red Cow as it was then - and get to see what that pub looked like then! Wonder if any of the production cast and crew would be in their having a few bevvies!

Great thread Carty There are so many possibilities here that one day would not really be enough. I would like to be able to travel around so many key locations and occasions that have been a part of my life and capture them all in 4K video. These would be the local towns as they were through the 70s as well as the fields and woods where we played as kids. When I see "action" cameras such as the Go-Pro nowadays I just wish we had such technology then to carry everywhere with us and record in such fine detail. Over the years I have managed to find some aerial photography and historic photography but there's never the full detail, all pictures are grainy and many locations overlooked because they were taken for granted at the time but which have now been redeveloped and lost for good. Every town and village has a history that can be researched but how many have detailed photographic images? Sadly not that many. Sam.

Yeah good post Cartman.
A bit against the grain from the other posts I’d like to go forward in time and see how things have progressed. I hope (maybe wrongly) things would improve compared to now. Not sure whether this would be a little bit (a few decades) in the future or a period like say 100-200 years from now but I’m just intrigued to see something beyond my lifetime – probably the ‘Blade Runner’ type scenario would be what I’d get but I still like to know?
If I were to go back I’d love to do the summer in Ibiza in 1987 or the notorious raves of 1988-89. Magic.

If it were possible I would love oh so very much to go back and have a good chat to myself in my early teens, and talk some sense to myself at that time. (Wouldn't we all of course.) In my my case it might have prevented an enormous lot of heartache for myself and my family.
Other than that take me back to the sixties or seventies for a few hours.
