More sad news.
My father and I were also fortunate enough to have met Geoffrey Wellum at the same book signing mentioned in the thread for Tom Neil. Geoffrey was probably the most famous, if that is the correct word, of the pilots that served to defend our country. A regular on TV documentaries and commemorative programmes he had a forthright and very endearing character combined with a fantastic memory for the events such that I (and I'm sure many others) could have listened to him for hours.
Again it is amazing that he survived the war but to live to the age of 96 is also an amazing achievement.
One of "The Few" to which we owe so much.
R.I.P Geoffrey.

Blackpool Airshow is this weekend, I live near & about half an hour ago weeding in the garden I saw a Spitfire flying very low overhead then a Lancaster & a Hurricane. I didn't know there was an airshow so it came as quite a surprise to see these old aircraft. This was a Battle Of Britain Memorial Flight, a second one is due tomorrow afternoon. britishairshows.com/blackpool-airshow.html
