I watched the first half of Day Of The Jackal last night. ( Watching the second half in a bit.) What an entertaining film it is. I hadn't seen it for many years. It's a really gripping film. Hard to imagine anyone not liking it. I read up on an incident in the film, and an attempt was made on the French Presidents life as he was being driven out of Paris just as they portray it in the film. This was fifteen months before the JFK assassination.
Charles.

I think this is one of the best thrillers ever made. Remember staying in Wales in August 1987 and seeing the first few minutes of this right up to the assassination attempt on President de Gaulle.

Couple of Sweeney actors in it too: Vernon Dobtcheff (The interrogator in the film) played Harry Kretchmar (one of the German policemen) in "Supersnout". Barrie Ingham (St Clair in the film) played Det. Chief Supt. Canning in "Jack Or Knave".

I've found this film to be pretty superb too and enjoyed it myself. The main character (Edward Fox?) is quite an all rounder and in a strange way, you find yourself nearly routing for him when you know you shouldn't! He was often one step ahead of the authorities........for a while...
One of the "must see" films in cinema history.

One of the "must see" films in cinema history. Yes Edward Fox gives a cracking performance in this film. If anyone has NetFlix it is on at the moment, and I urge you to watch it.

I was reading about this film recently & how iconic 70's terrorist Carlos The Jackal ( real name Ilich Ramirez Sanchez ) got his name-
"Carlos was dubbed "The Jackal" by The Guardian after one of its correspondents reportedly spotted Frederick Forsyth's 1971 novel The Day of the Jackal near some of the fugitive's belongings"

It made me wonder at the time if it was a true story. I understand it was Forsyth's first book. It was a massive success for him.

TV Times showing from 1980.
Later on Reginald Bosanquet is one of the players on Pro Celebrity Darts, wonder if he hit any spectators in the head?

I think that was the tv showing when I first saw this great film.
On the other stuff, I also remember Russ Abbots Madhouse and tales of the unexpected (both ok) Don't remember Mixed Blessings at all. Chips I do remember, being terrible!

Mixed Blessings involved a newly married couple, the wife is Black & the husband is White, and their disapproving families. I do remember it but there don't seem to be any clips of it on yt, it's on dvd but I'd be surprised if it aired on Forces TV or the like due to its dated premise.
