I've been trying to car spot amongst episodes of Kojak too, amongst the many US motors are the odd U.S spec MK1 Ford Capris, badged as Mercury's there and had twin headlamps before the European market got them and side markers on the front and rear wings. A think a Mercury Capri is parked up in the lead up to the scene where the bomb is planted in the municipal buildings in Dirty Harry sequel The Enforcer. I'd certainly prefer the Capri to the notorious Pinto coupe Ford/Mercury had out around that time in the States.

Spotted out on the deserted streets of Harrow On The Hill yesterday by our very own Charlie Croker was this classic Volvo 145DL Reg VET473K Registered on 23rd November 1971, it's now 49 years old with the tax & MOT up next month. Thanks for sending me the photos Charlie This is the "updated" model of the Volvo we see at the end of Sweeney 2 (When White is zeroed by the marksman). The same car is also seen when Georgina Hale arrives at Jack's flat in the taxi. Furthermore, it is parked behind an upgraded post 1970 Volvo 145DL in exactly the same colour! The main one we see in Sweeney 2 was a 1969 model with the split screen rear side window. The split screen glass was dropped in 1970 in favour of a one piece window. Notice also on the offside photo above, that there is a vent just below the rear side window. This was also missing on the 1969 Sweeney 2 Volvo because it was only introduced in 1970 for the flow through ventilation system, along with the one piece window. Finally, the car above also has the diagonal slash on the front grille. This only came in on 1971 cars. For comparison, here is the car in Sweeney 2: An interesting thought. As the car in the photos Charlie Croker has sent me is a London car, I wonder what are the chances of it being the very same car we see parked in front of the other Volvo near Jack's flat back in 1977? Gene. Great spot Charlie Thanks for posting them Guv and for the info about the links with Sweeney 2.

Well done and thanks for the spot Charlie and to the Guv for putting it up - looks in expectionally good condition for its age too. A mate of mine's dad had one about the same reg and spec up until about 1983, which was white, he changed it for a gold N reg 245DL estate after that.
You do wonder if it was the same car in Sweeney 2 yeah!

Good old bullet proof Volvo loved by antique dealers and bootsalers.

They really were solid those old Volvos and it could be possible it was the motor in shot. Great find Charlie.

Thank you for posting the photos for me Gene. The car is in great shape, the marks are bird droppings. Great bodywork. I see it most days when I go for a walk. No one parks close to it as it's a very solid car. I think The Saint was looking for one of these but ended up with that white car that he had so much luck with.

Partially doing this to see if it works, but also thought you'd quite enjoy seeing this clip! Some slightly scary lane changes going on throughout! But there's just something about footage from this time ...

Great clip Bols. If you like that, you'd love the start of Sweeney 2.

Nice Volvo pics.
I had a D reg 240GLE estate back in the 90's, one of the best cars I've had.
