I think that Gloria Gaynors version of Never can say goodbye is much better than the Jackson Fives original recording.

Another cover I rather like is the more funky upbeat version of the Bill Withers' classic 'Lean on Me' by Club Nouveau. The single did much better in the UK charts than the original one, too. Vi

I haven't heard that version for many years Vienna. I think it was a good update at the time and I liked the track, It's 80s sound dates it but doesn't detract from it. I note here that they use multiple voices in parts to do the Withers original justice. Withers Original ? Sounds like a toffee

Little Anthony and the Imperials did the original version of 'Yesterday Has Gone' in 1968, but it never charted or the song was perhaps not released in the UK. However, UK band Cupid's Inspiration later took the song to the Top 5 in the same year. I heard it again recently and it's a better version too, IMO. Vi

I've not heard that song before or heard of Cupid's Inspiration, which is surprising as it's really good. The guitarist looks just like Oddbod Jr. from 'Carry On Screaming' The pianist looks like Keith Buckley in 'Faces'.

Gambo played it on 'Pick of the Pops' on Radio 2 recently when they featured a chart from July 1968. Something that doesn't happen too often now as the station seems to want younger listeners Vi

After hearing Jason Donovan's version of "Sealed With A Kiss" last night I thought I'd post in a different thread only to find that what I thought was the original was instead a cover version!
So here we are with Bryan Hyland's cover version that I think is the best version:
Now the original by The Four Voices which I found to be a bit weak and sluggish:
Another cover, this time from Bobby Vinton with some bongos that do it no favours:
Now Jason's, to be fair not too bad for a SAW production and certainly better than both the original and Bobby Vinton's version:
So for me Bryan Hyland's version has to be the benchmark.
Sam.
