Like both versions but I agree the later is the stronger version.

Yes, I prefer the Tom Jones and Stereophonics version. Three Dog Night were big in the US in the early 70s but did virtually nothing in Britain. I think at that time the British and American charts diverged, acts which were big in Britain, like Slade, Sweet etc, conversely missed out on any success in the US

This has to be one of the best ever cover versions of any song. The Arrows recorded the original "I Love Rock 'N Roll" back in 1975, but the single failed to make the charts. Joan Jett saw The Arrows perform the song whilst she was touring the UK shortly after and recorded the song herself in 1979 with two members of the Sex Pistols. However, it was the 1981 version that was re-recorded with her band The Blackhearts, released in 1982, that was so successful, spending 7 weeks at No.1 in the US. Vi

Spot on Vienna, this version betters the original for me. That's no detriment to the original which is very good

Britney's version may be better on the eye than either The Arrows or Joan Jett but in my opinion is not so good on the ear, her voice is too weak to do the song justice.
For me it is a close run thing between The Arrows and Joan Jett, happily listening to both of them.
Sam.

It's a close contest, but Joan Jett made the best version in my opinion Steed

Much as I love The Kinks - All Day and All of the Night, I prefer The Stranglers' 1988 cover, particularly Hugh's guitar solo.

Good shout Nightfly. I Love The Stranglers and I think they do a good job on All Day And All Of The Night. It's certainly better than the later Metallica version of the track that featured on Ray Davis' See My Friends - Kinks Cover album. Hue gets closest to Dave's solo on this cover but for me I'd have to say The Kinks is still a cut above.
