Never understood why men would bother with a combover, everyone, but everyone knows what it is and you're fooling no-one. The most famous example must surely be Sir Bobby Charlton: Robert Robinson of Ask The Family fame was another great exponent of the comb over: You must look a right Charlie if it blows out of position.

Talking about Robert Robinson, anyone remember in Viz, there was a floating giant nude Robert Robinson used as a boat?

Jerry Lewis is an interesting character. I read an article online about a personal appearance tour he did late in life, he would appear at various venues in the US & do a question & answer show for mostly OAP fans who would turn up in coaches. According to this article he was generally abusive to the audience, yet they still lapped it up. Apologies - only just discovered this topic. I've never seen the appeal of Lewis either and this car crash interview from a few years back doesn't help.

He was terrible. Jim Carrey actually based his act on him, and I think he's as bad, with the exception of The Truman Show, which I thought was quite a clever satire on reality TV

He cut all the children from his first marriage out of his will, one of his sons described him as evil man.

What a total twat. Never liked the bloke and that interview hasn't changed my mind.

Judging by what's written about his behaviour & looking at youtube clips of interviews, Lewis met all the criteria of being a sociopath. Your children don't describe you as 'evil' without good reason, he disowned most of them.
Might be a cliche but there do seem to be an awful lot of angry & unhappy people involved in comedy.
Combovers seem to have more or less disappeared in the last 30 years, shaved or very short hair was not so common until the 90's I think. People assumed you were in the army or something if you had close cropped hair before that.

I've never liked Lewis either, and didn't think he was a bit funny. I'm not at all surprised he faded from the big screen by the late 60s.
He once did a live TV show with Bob Hope ( Not keen on him either.) Bing Crosby and Dean Martin and Crosby sensing that the way things were going with his antics Lewis was going to pull Crosby's syrup of in front of the TV audience. So Crosby just walked off the show there and then, and apparently they never spoke to each other again.

Crosby. Another unlikeable figure by all accounts.

Yes I've heard that about Crosby too. I understand his kids hated him as well.
