Anyone remember Reggie Bosanquet, who used to read the news on ITV? He was a syrup wearer, as well as reading the news after having had more than a few drinks! I liked him and thought he was a great character. No disrespect to the prim and proper Kenneth Kendal and Richard Baker from the Beeb, but Reggie had the edgy cheeky personality which was unheard of in newsreaders of the time. The two things I remember about him that stuck out. He was reading an item about the Army responding to an old lady whose cat was stuck up a tree when they were providing cover for striking firemen around 1978/9 in their infamous "Green Godesses". Reggie reported that the old lady made the soldiers a cup of tea after the rescue and they unfortunately ran over the poor cat when they left. Reggie was given a b*llocking for laughing after reading it. Then there was some paternity claim from a young women who accurately described the tie she helped him pick out as he left her bed to head for the studio to announce the death of Elvis. He certainly was a bit of a lad.

Marty Wilde - a mate of mine had the honour of visiting his home in the early 70s when Marty was promoting up and coming bands for a talent contest. Marty was apparently perfectly at ease minus the syrup - That's just for the stage and the cameras, lads.
