Right lets finish it off with December, the end of an era to me, before we hit the downward spiral that was the 80s. Having said that though, I did like 1980 too, it was another very good year, still plenty of New Wave, Ska and 2 Tone was big, disco probably started to wane and punk had pretty much fizzled out. The big new development that year were the New Romantics, which I think were the last gasp of this creative and exciting period.
I have enjoyed running through the charts of 78/79 and its brought back some super memories
Pink Floyd - Another brick in the wall. I do not like this dirge at all, never have. Police - Walking on the moon - possibly one of their slightly better ones but Im not keen Abba - I have a dream* Tourists - I only want to be with you* Sugarhill Gang - Rappers delight* I don't like rap generally but one or two of the early efforts weren't bad, Blondie's Rapture from early 81 was good too Fiddlers Dram - Day Trip to Bangor. Listenable to I suppose, just. Michael Jackson - Off the wall* Paul McCartney - Wonderful Christmas Time. Truly execrable IMO!! possibly THE worst Christmas song EVER!!!! Three Degrees - My Simple heart* - love this Pretenders - Brass in pocket* and this too Blondie - Union City Blue* Status Quo - Living on an Island* quite unlike Quo's normal stuff but I liked it Skids - Working for the Yankee Dollar* The Beat - Tears of a clown* Shiela B Devotion - Spacer* love this, another brilliant Nile Rodgers production, possibly one of my favourites of the year K C & Sunshine Band - Don't go*
There we have it! my two favourite years of all time.

Really enjoyed this run myself Cartman and thanks again for posting them all Not a lot for me to choose from November. Thin Lizzy with Sarah being a standout piece for me. December looks a little better though. Jackson's Off The Wall was for me the start of a fantastic run for Wacko. Brass In Pocket is fantastic and a track I listen to quite often in the motor. Union City Blue too. The Quo with Living On An Island always conjures up the same memory time after time when I hear it. The nightclub scene in Auf Wiedersehen, Pet 2. Have to disagree about Macca's Wonderful Christmas Time being the worst Crimbo song ever though. What are you thinking about??? Have you never heard Cliff's Mistletoe & Wine?? That surely puts the Macca cack into 2nd spot for all time worst. Gene.

Yeah, forgot about that! The thing about Macca was, to me, he was either very good or very bad with not much middle ground. He never really did anything that was "yes, sort of OK but not great" it was either excellent or utter garbage.

I am toying with the idea of a bit more retro chart run downs, probably 76 and 77, then 1980
Anyone interested?

Ok then, here goes. I have decided to start this off with September 75 as that was the month when I started to listen to the chart run down, in my bedroom every Sunday night from 6 till 7 on Radio 1, from memory I think the guy doing it was called Tom Browne. I had just started back at school, in the 5th year, the last one before GCE O levels.
Rod Stewart - Sailing* Roger Whittaker - The Last Farewell - Odd one, sort of listenable to Leo Sayer - Moonlighting* David Essex - Hold me close* Jasper Carrot - Funky Moped - just awful Stylistics - I cant give you anything* Mike Batt - Summertime City* 5000 Volts - I'm on fire* - lead singer was Tina Charles, more from her next year KC & The Sunshine Band - That's the way I like it* Hot Chocolate - A childs prayer* Showaddywaddy - Heartbeat* - not a massive fan but this wasn't bad The Drifters - There goes my first love* George McCrae - Its been so long* Chris Spedding - Motorbikin* Art Garfunkel - I only have eyes for you* Jonathan King/George Baker Selection - Una Paloma Blanca* - two versions on at the same time Procol Harum - Pandoras Box* Carl Malcolm - Fattie Bum Bum* Mac and Katie Kissoon - Like a Butterfly* Biddu Orchestra - Summer of 42* El Bimbo - Bimbo jet* Four Seasons - who loves you* Bowie - Fame* The Eagles - One of these nights* Abba - SOS*
Some good stuff on there, again quite a mixed selection

And October...Memories of half term, meeting up with three lads I used to hang about with at school to play football, and the ball going onto a flat roof and trying to get it back! also of Bury making a good start in Division 3 and being second in the table, then going on a disastrous run
Morris Albert - Feelings* Bowie - Space Oddity* Band of The Black Watch - Scotch on the Rocks - they used to stand there on TOTP, not moving, odd I thought Smokie - Don't play your rock n roll to me* I have always liked Smokie somehow Mud - L-l-l-lucy* Esther Phillips - What a difference a day makes* Judge Dredd - Big 10 - never actually heard it as it was banned by the BBC!! Roxy Music - Love is the drug* Roxy's early stuff I liked Glen Campbell - Rhinestone Cowboy* Elton John - Island Girl* Bob Marley - No woman no cry* Goodies - Nappy Love - In the same half term as the ball incident, me and the other lads recorded our own version of this!! Trammps - Hold back the night* Love this Bad Company - Feel like making love* Sparks - Looks Looks Looks* Dee Clark - Ride a wild horse* John Miles - High fly* Hello - New York Groove*
Theres actually more good stuff than I remember from this period as I was starting to really get into music. More from November shortly, and the first of a long sequences of crash and burns with the girlies happened then!!
