Just heard that Special Branch is going to be shown starting 26th of this month on the T.P. channel at 9pm. They will be showing it from the first episode. I usually watch TV around 9pm so I'm looking forward to watching it.
Charles.

Ah that's interesting, I know it was recently on Forces TV (edited) but will be interesting if TPTV show it uncut and the Thames/Euston Films series too which are quite different in look, feel and acting style.
Thanks again for the heads up Charles.

Just seen a trailer for the film version of "The Lovers" starring Richard Beckinsale & Paula Wilcox on October 5th at 10:20pm (repeated Tuesday 8th October @10pm), I'll be watching, be a great start to another retro weekend

I wasnt aware there was a film version of 'The Lovers' I wouldn't mind seeing this one. Richard Beckinsale and Paula Wilcox were really good in the series. I'm wondering if the film was made after the series and if they got married in the film?
Charles.

The Lovers is a decent film. I have had it on VHS for at least 25 years. I love the theme tune too which is by Tony Christie.

The key stuff they got right for Sweeney seems lacking here, although nothing wrong with the actors as such, they all did well in other stuff it just doesn't make me want to watch more episodes.

Hard to watch Special Branch ( the George Sewell incarnation ) without thinking of it as a dry run for The Sweeney & let's be honest Sewell, a good supporting face, does not bear comparison with Thaw, nor does the chemistry between him & Pat Mower compare to Thaw/Waterman.
Having said that I've never bothered to watch 'Redcap' with John Thaw nor Morse/Kavanagh QC. I can't think of many series that you can happily watch over & over like The Sweeney.
