I'll stick me neck on the block here Gerry and admit that I do actually remember this. Gene.

I like your ITN theme Gerry. Yes I do remember it.
A good find, and as you say very fifties.
Charles.

I remember that theme being used for the news, sounds odd hearing it in its entirety.
The theme to 'Panorama' is from Francis Lai's soundtrack to the film 'Un Homme Et Une Femme'
An excerpt from 'Nantucket Sleighride ( To Owen Coffin )' by obscure American rockers Mountain was a 'what were they thinking?' choice of a theme for ITV's political affairs programme 'Weekend World'-

In those days you’d have to warm your telly up 5 minutes before the programme you wanted to view. So I remember Nantucket sleighride as a precursor to Space 1999 as the sound and picture gradually came into being.

I'm quite familiar with this one... Vi Every time I hear this theme tune I start grinning. It’s what you might call “instant morale” :D

Weekend world takes me back. There was not a lot on tv on a Sunday morning/lunchtime so I used to watch open university progs on BBC2. Weekend World used to come on around lunch time I think and I used to listen to that rocking theme before turning it over🤣
It's a very lively piece, seems a bit out of place on a political program. Could have easily worked as a theme for an action drama.

Weekend World has reminded me of 'This Is Your Right', this was a 5 minute long programme on citizen's rights shown after 'News At 5.45' ( another blast from the past ), it was only shown in the Granada region, there was an Asian language version called 'Aap Kaa Hak'.
Not a great theme or intro but it might bring back memories for those in the NorthWest.

Who remembers the World in Action theme tune (Composed by Shawn Phillips and Mick Weaver) sounds so serious sobering - and makes me think of Power Cuts, Strikes, Idi Amin, Rhodesia, The Falklands, politics of the time, Northern Ireland troubles...........Made you think something very serious was coming up on this current affairs program and the symbol of the 4 armed and legged man......
