I thought this series was worth a mention. I caught several episodes of this during the 80's and remember it being very violent for it's time. Thinking about it I probably wasn't allowed to watch it but I do remember some episodes. I've got the whole series on DVD and have watched it many times and really enjoy it. Not watched it recently though.
This could fall into the category of the series that ran on too long as it did get slightly silly in the later series. It also went downhill after Jan Hammer stopped producing the music for the series, A guy called Tim Trueman produced the music for the later series. It was ok but the Jan Hammer stuff added more to the Atmosphere of it and it's what I remember from the 80's when I saw it on TV. I believe Jan did return with the music in the final series.
Great Characters, Superb music, Location and Special Guest stars. What's not to like ?

Maybe the first tv show to have the glossy look of a film, it seemed very different to the US cop shows that came before. I'm sure I watched it but I can't remember any of the plots, etc. The clothing certainly had a big influence on how men dressed in the UK, I remember people turning up for weddings & family functions dressed in pale blue suits & white shoes with no socks on.

I haven't really watched modern American shows in recent years. I did watch a series called Fargo about a year ago, and I thought that was pretty good, but very violent too. One if the main actors in it was Martin Freeman who I'd never heard of before. Apparently he's been in other things Sherlock and The Office both of which I've never watched.
I'm slowly working my way through Fargo 2 now, that seems to be okay too, but perhaps slightly depressing.
Charles.

I saw it a couple of years ago and Martin Freeman played the part well. Billy Bob Thornton played a good part too.

The only thing I liked about the show was the theme tune. It seemed a lot of rubbish to me at the time, with the cops dressed as fashion models Vi

I remember watching this in the 80's and was initially drawn in by the Ferrari cop car and who doesn't love the theme tune In London this show was mainly responsible for kicking off an Espadrille craze. Everyone was wearing them that summer and i guess that year was 1985. I remember the show was the usual cop fare of Drugs and Murder. Last time i saw any of it must of been in the early 90's on cable. Wouldn't mind watching it again at some point.

Never watched it at the time it was originally on, but it was repeated in about 1995 ish so I did watch it then. Started off OK ish, but got a bit silly sums it up for me, very much of its time, which wasn't an era I liked personally, so I wouldn't say I was a big fan. Best character I thought was the boss, I cant remember his name, was a bit intense, always wore a black suit

We never watched it at the time, saw probably only one or two but did like the Jan Hammer music.
We bought the Jan Hammer album 'Escape From Television' and for me the favourite track was Crockett's Theme:
Sam.

Cartman. The bosses name was Martin Castillo played by Edward James Olmos. I don't think he smiled in the series once as I recall lol.
Good album that Sam , Escape from Television. There is a double album that is / was available called Miami Vice the complete collection. Some fantastic stuff on there from the show. It may be on YouTube I'm not sure.
Seasons one and two were great, three was ok but it started to decline from there. Some very ropey episodes spring to mind from the later series but the earlier ones are definitely worth a watch.
Found it on YT
