Alex, your Diana memory would have been comparable to my very vague recollection of JFK, loads of stuff on telly about it and a massive talking point amongst the adults, even though I had no idea at the time what it was all about. I had a similar experience with 9/11. I’d never heard of the world trade centre and couldn’t really fathom why a plane going into a building wasn’t an accident. Who would do that on purpose? What a daft thing to do. I remember the main impact on me was that the adults were scared and they’re the ones who are meant to reassure us, so it must be bad. But I didn’t really grasp the extent of the horror until a few years later. I bet the Berlin Wall falling is an amazing memory. I did German A Level and we went to Berlin and more or less all the coursework we did was on that period of history. I get goosebumps whenever I watch any footage of it. I didn’t know until recently that one of JFK’s brothers was assassinated also!

Yes, John Kennedy’s brother, Bobby, was assassinated in 1968, and his older brother, Joseph died when testing an explosive loaded radio controlled aircraft in 1944.

His sister was labotomised ... not sure the odds were in your favour if you were in that family!

Or involved with it. Look at Marilyn Monroe.
