I first saw Fawlty Towers in the mid 1980's and video taped them all, my brother and I must have seen each episode a hundred times!
In my opinion the best British comedy ever. Fantastic writing by John Cleese & Connie Booth and a first class cast with Prunella Scales and Andrew Sachs joining them, plus regulars Ballard Berkeley, Gilly Flower, Renee Roberts, Brian Hall and a host of special guests.
It has not really dated, I watch some old comedy series today and they seem very slow and plodding, whereas Fawlty Towers runs at 100 mph all the way through.
All the episodes are fantastic, but the one that stands out for me is from the second series, "The Psychiatrist".
So what do people think of Fawlty Towers?
I have created a poll to vote for the best episode.

I watched the first series again a few months ago. I'll have to catch up on the second series before I vote. Up to now I quite like The Wedding Party. Is that the one were Basil thinks there's loads of carrying on among the guests, Polly included ?

Great series. Again like other sitcoms discussed so far it was well written and superbly acted. The 60's to 80's really was The Golden age of Television. I can't think of too many modern day equivalents that i would extend this praise to.
Voting was extremely hard for this programme because all the episodes are little masterpieces. I have plumped for The Germans ...Don't mention The War :clap2:

I've voted for The Builders. The disaster caused by cowboy builder O'Reily in plastering over the dining room door is hilarious.
"O'Reilly, if you're not over here in 20 minutes with my door, then I'll come over there and insert a large garden gnome in you. Good day." (rofl)
All the episodes are exceptionally good. The Germans is another standout episode.

In my opinion they are all good episodes but I voted for The Builders. My second choice would have been Gourmet Night, I love the part where Basil gives his car a damn good thrashing with a tree branch!
