From time to time there will be updates to the forum. Some cosmetic and some added functionality. In the 10 months we have been running, there have already been a few extras added, such as the PM alert, where members receive a popup announcement when they have a new private message, also the auto image resize feature, where all oversized pictures posted by members are automatically resized to a set width to keep the forum looking neat & tidy, and the floating arrow on the right side of the pages that quickly takes you to the top of the page you are on. There has also been a new theme added with and Ashes To Ashes style star background, which has proven popular with many members.
Today, I've installed a couple of new features.
The first is in addition to the earlier PM Alert. Now, when you receive a PM from another member or staff, you will be asked to confirm that you want to read the PM. In doing so, the PM will then be stamped with a read receipt. This is very useful in letting those sending PM's know when the recipient has actually opened the PM and read it. This was not previously possible.
The second addition is the inclusion of a "Spoiler Alert" button. This can be viewed in the full post editor (not in quick reply mode). You will see a new icon at the far right of the row of buttons (Hover over it to see its description). This will be extremely useful when compiling a post that contains spoilers about a new TV show for instance. To use it, just click on the button and you will be presented with a pop up box with two input fields. Field one is called "Spoiler Title" and is for you to enter the text you wish to be displayed to warn of the spoiler and field two is called "Spoiler Body" and is for you to enter the actual text of the spoiler itself.
i.e - Spoiler Title = "Spoiler Alert - Click Here To Reveal" Spoiler Body = "Any text you want hidden"
Example -
{Spoiler Alert - Click Here To Reveal} This is the content of the spoiler and will remain hidden until clicking.
A further click on the Spoiler Title will cause the spoiler to be hidden again. Try it.
More features to come in time.
Gene.

Nice one Gene. Sure I'll be using the Spoiler feature a few times in the months to come and appreciate the work you and the rest of the moderators do with the site. Not long now until the 1 year anniversary too.

Just added a new scrolling marquee at the top of the boards on the home page. This replaces the old style news feed.

Some very useful updates there Gene, I like the way that the scrolling marquee has an active hyperlink.

I like the scrolling marquee, particularly being different colours makes it stand out. Also the automatic sizing of pics when you load them on the forum is far better than just getting an error message or having to remember what size to crop pics. Nice inclusions. Are they difficult to do ? I noticed something new on the forum. I was looking at the forum but hadn't logged in yet and a little pop up box appeared saying that I had looked at six discussion posts, and would I like to consider joining the forum.

Some are not so difficult to implement but the one you mention above has proven very problematic. When did you see that popup message as this feature was switched off 24 hours ago due to inconsistent test results. If the message you saw was as you say above "Have you thought about joining" then I assume you were not logged in at the time. This message is for Non Members (Or those not logging in)
Had you have been logged in, it would have said "We notice you're a registered member and that you've recently visited (X) thread(s), but haven't posted since (X). Please remember we rely upon contributions from members (as set out in rule 14) so please feel free to join in with any discussions"
The issue I've been having is that I couldn't get the "You haven't posted since..>" to generate the correct date of previous post, so I shelved the idea for the time being.
Glad you like the additions though. Some cosmetic, some functional but hopefully, all make the place that bit better.
Gene
