You answered your own question there Batgirl
Some are not so difficult to implement but the one you mention above has proven very problematic. When did you see that popup message as this feature was switched off 24 hours ago due to inconsistent test results. If the message you saw was as you say above "Have you thought about joining" then I assume you were not logged in at the time. This message is for Non Members (Or those not logging in)
Had you have been logged in, it would have said "We notice you're a registered member and that you've recently visited (X) thread(s), but haven't posted since (X). Please remember we rely upon contributions from members (as set out in rule 14) so please feel free to join in with any discussions"
The issue I've been having is that I couldn't get the "You haven't posted since..>" to generate the correct date of previous post, so I shelved the idea for the time being.
Glad you like the additions though. Some cosmetic, some functional but hopefully, all make the place that bit better.
Gene
I saw the "Have you thought about joining" message as I wasn't logged in. I noticed that there seems to be around 100+ guests usually noted at the bottom of the forum page with the registered users. Certainly seems to be getting a lot more people visiting than before. Another feature that appeared to me was when I didn't click on the page number of a thread properly, a little pop up box appeared asking me to key in what page number I wanted. The forum's pages are more user friendly than Microsoft !

This new plugin was being worked on throughout the night and appears to be working OK now. A fault was found in the code so the whole thing was rewritten and is now in place pending final tests.
This plugin has been put in place to give a gentle reminder to both members and non-members. As you have highlighted above Batgirl, there has been an ever increasing number of viewers visiting 4:3tv recently as it becomes more and more established. In order to continue this trend, we want to remind everyone (members and non-members) that we rely on people contributing to the threads. We have noticed that a few members have been logging in from time to time, but not contributed anything, so they will receive the gentle reminder to consider rule 14 of the Forum Rules (regards contributing members). Non Members will receive the gentle reminder that we'd love them to join the forum and get involved in the discussions.
When we were setting up the forum, me & Sam decided from the outset that we wanted to be a forum with contributing members. We have no interest whatsoever in having 3000 members but only 25 of those members contributing. That is pointless. At the moment, we have come very close to that target with probably 50 of the 55 members posting on a regular basis.
Moving on, in the 10 months we have been running, we have constantly introduced new features to make the place more and more user friendly. There are loads of little, but perhaps not so obvious features that members can use. I encourage everyone to get stuck in and try some of these out to enrich the user experience. I am currently working on another theme for 4:3tv that may or may not be to everyone's taste but the beauty of the themes is that members can choose which one they have as their default theme. This new theme should be in place over the coming weekend. I'll post details as soon as it's ready. Feel free to try it out. If you don't like it, simply revert back to your previous theme.
Glad you are all enjoying 4:3tv. It is still early days but we have exceeded our goals for the first 12 months by a mile and we are grateful to the great membership base we have so far attracted.
Gene.

Hello all,
I installed a vastly improved PM alert system on the forum yesterday.
Briefly, Now, when you have a new message, you will as before see a pop up dialogue saying you have a new message and asking if you want to read it now. Clicking "OK" will take you to the message area where you will presented with a 60 second countdown box asking for confirmation that you want to read the message. Accepting this will take you to the message contents and will place a stamp at the head of the message which tells the reader who has read the message (in the case of multiple recipients) and also when it was read.
Also, any unread messages in your inbox will now be illustrated by a red star.
If you find that explanation difficult to follow, the best thing to do is give it a try by sending someone a message. That way you'll see how it all works. This is available to everyone, staff and members inclusive and is now more user friendly on mobile devices. This is the way things will be heading as we move closer to the massive system upgrade and overhaul at some point in the near future.
Gene Hunt.

Like the new banner I created that this morning. Thought it would be a nice aesthetic upgrade as we are nearing 4:3tv's 2nd Birthday. I've also implemented a change to peoples profiles which are displayed to the left of their posts. If anyone has filled in the social media links on their personal profile pages, they will now have the relative buttons displayed at the foot of their profile. This will also help with promotion of the forum. At the moment the changes are only available with the GH A2A Stars theme. If enough people like them I'll roll it out onto all themes. Thanks Steve

Looks good to me Gene mate. Coming up for 2 years just shows how successful we've all been with and the contributions we've made to this site. Well in to the mods and members who've made this site the success it's been since 2015.

Thanks Steve I've now added the updates to all themes. I have also created a new theme called "Purple Haze Pro" which at the moment is still in the beta test phase. I have made it accessible to all members so if anyone wants to try it out and make constructive suggestions for improvements (not just "I don't like it") then feel free to do let me know. It will look different from one members screen to another so these themes are a guessing game and your input will be appreciated. The new theme can be selected to try it out by clicking on the "Profile" button across the top of the main page, then click the "Edit Profile" tab, and finally the "Settings" tab. Part way down the page you will then see a "Forum Theme" drop down box where you can select the desired theme. If you don't like the new Purple Haze Pro theme at all, it is easy to follow the above steps and choose another, or revert to the original "GH Purple" theme. Gene.
