Who has met any celebs and if so, what were they like, were they OK or arsey?
Ive not met many, but, at least they were all OK:
Rio Ferdinand, met him in the park one afternoon near me, with his two kids and I was there with my lad who was 5 or 6 at the time. He seemed like a decent guy, some teenage lads were bugging him for autographs and he was really good with them, chatted to them
Bobby Ball, saw him at Chester Zoo with his wife and kids, he was really friendly
Bez from the Happy Mondays, his lad goes to the same junior school as mine, in the year below, met him a few times, top bloke, just like he is on telly
Coleen Nolan, saw her in M & S once, she was nice and pleasant too
Julie Hesmondhalgh (ex Hayley from Corrie) she was great, lovely lady
Any others?

I've not met any famous people in the sense of speaking to them directly, etc., but I've encountered a few by accident. Frank Carson- in a golf club, he knew my Aunty, bought my sister & me cokes, seemed a considerate sort & wasn't in his onscreen 'loud mode'. Metallica- they happened to be in a club I was at ( this was in 1987 ), guitarist Kirk Hammett gave me a smile as I had a Metallica t shirt on. Tony Melody ( familiar face in various sitcoms )- saw him when I went to see Bruce Forsyth's one man show in Blackpool ( 1988 ), he lived in Blackpool. Ray Allan ( ventriloquist )- again saw him in the bar of the theatre after Bruce's one man show. Lord Charles not present. The Krankies- on my way home from school, walked past the local golf course & they were there playing golf, they saw my friend & I & said hello, seemed like nice people. Keith Harris- used to live near me, attended the local Catholic church, friendly down to Earth person according to my mum who spoke to him. Jim Davidson- saw him hanging about in the street in Blackpool town centre by himself, seemed on edge. Mick Miller ( comedian )- saw him at local supermarket. Colleen Nolan- saw her through window whilst in dentists. Brian London ( boxer )- familiar face in Blackpool, could be seen wandering about the town most days looking punch drunk. He has ( or had ) LONDON emblazoned in large letters over the entrance to his garage at his home. I don't get out much as you can tell I wouldn't have approached any of these luminaries in any case as I don't believe in pestering anyone, famous or not. I hate those judgmental lists you find on sites like digitalspy that rate friendly/unfriendly celebs ( though I am guilty of reading them ).

Camila Batmanghelidjh of Kids Company fame, in Latymers, when I was once early for a Sweeney Pre Meet Drinks evening. I hope you're well stocked up on 'mind bleach' mate...! Back in 1984 I was nearly run over by Leo Sayer at Paddington station, he was late for his train and swiped me with his luggage trolley, knocking me flying. Bizarrely, a similar thing happened to me on the concourse at Euston a few weeks later when Eric Sykes did the very same thing! He was also smoking the largest cigar I'd ever seen. The following might sound like I'm name dropping rather a lot but it's all true...! Living in Hammersmith in the early to mid '80s I used to see actors Terence Alexander and Denholm Elliot on Ravenscourt Park station most weeks, both were absolute gentlemen although Denholm Elliot was usually three sheets to the wind. Also used to see Rodney Bewes and James Bolam regularly walking down King Street in Hammersmith, laughing and joking with each other. It's often said in magazine articles or interviews that they never stayed in touch after 'Whatever Happened To The Likely Lads' had finished but this is not true, if I was just finishing a morning shift and walking back down King Street they'd often be tumbling out of the old boozer which used to stand on the pedestrianised area a few yards along from where Wetherspoons is now. If I said hello to either of them they'd usually say hello back. Another regular face in King Street was Magnus Pike, I think he lived in nearby Chiswick. Actress Sarah Miles bought a house right by the river around 1983, just along from The Blue Anchor and Hammersmith Bridge, I used to see her walking along the river quite a bit. A little further on towards Chiswick was a pub called 'The Ship' (not sure what it's called now) and a regular drinker there was Del Henney, my uncle used to drink with him occasionally and talk about fishing a lot. Well known for playing hardmen and villains, in the flesh he looked very much the part but was a nice guy to speak to. Over the river in Barnes my Grandad lived five doors down from Clive Dunn in Nassau Road, on a family visit there in 1975 we were invited in for tea and allowed to use his outdoor swimming pool, Clive was a lovely old fella. Grandad was good friends with several old school actors and showbiz types (he was a sound recording engineer and had his own home studio after the war and used it until he passed away in '91) and would often meet up with Bernard Hepton in 'The Bell' for a drink. I can remember asking him about working on 'Secret Army' and he was very patient with me at the time, a real gent. In those days a lot of the boozers along the river didn't mind young kids wandering about so long as their were parents close by, I can remember seeing several familiar faces from the TV series 'Colditz' in there as I wandered around supping lemonade and eating packets of crisps! Grandad often took us down to Brighton in his Mk1 Granada estate and while Nan kept us entertained on the beach, he'd nip off and pay a visit to Frankie Howerd who he knew very well and had a flat near the seafront. Grandad brought him back to say hello to us on one occasion before dropping him off outside his flat, I was about eight years old at the time but remember him being very funny and 'in character'. Even at that young age I could tell Frankie was sporting a 'syrup'! During my last visit to see Grandad just before he died, my other half and I went for a walk around Barnes Common and we bumped into Paul and Linda McCartney, I was gobsmacked and mumbled something daft when Macca said ''hello, alright..?''. Apparently he'd just been in to visit someone at Olympic Studios (now closed sadly) which was on Church Road, just round the corner from my Grandad's house. Good 'ere, innit? Villain

Wow.....You actually met Macca,Villain? Now,hang on a moment. That now makes you officially one of the most important people I have met.I do like that story, mate.
I have met nobody of any 'mark' to be honest (and by saying that,I mean that I have met people who are famous in their own field of work, but not many others would be too interested,I don't think:they're not familiar TV faces or anything like that). But I did once get a proper earful off of Brian Clough-I was only young at the time, too.I think I've shared this story before. And I am convinced that it is down to Cloughie making me feel extremely silly and embarrassed at a vulnerable age (11,12,13-somewhere around there)that now,if I ever meet anybody who is even slightly well known,I get very nervous and I end up saying something stupid.
I attended a funeral a few weeks back, which was attended by a couple of Forest footballers.I won't mention any names. One of them is retired now,and was a very good England regular,he was okay,I suppose. But the other guy,who is ready for retiring, and an ex Irish international, was a real obnoxious prat.Which I let upset me a little, until I came to my senses a bit.The thing was,I never even said anything to upset the guy.I've since heard that there is a problem with him being a bit too fond of the Persil, which would explain things, but still no excuse.
I was once walking through Nottingham city centre one teatime,it was winter as it was dark, perhaps 5PM or so.Coming towards me was a tall handsome feller,I glanced up,and I swear I thought to myself "this geezer thinks he's Callum Best",and he looks at me (can see me staring at him,I suppose)and he says "alright, mate?"and bugger me,it WAS Callum Best.Very friendly, too.I have met Nick Hewer,ex of The Apprentice,Lord Sugars' right hand man.My band did a gig where he was a guest,he was lovely.Said how good we were, and how much he enjoyed our set.....very nice.My dad used to ferry Nadia Sawalha around (he's a chauffer),she came to see us at a gig once:she got drunk and was great company. That was at a spit and sawdust local here in Clifton, too. She just blended right in,it was a top night. My dad has met a few celebs, and ferried them about:Bobby Davro,Ted Bovis (can't think of his real name),Geoffrey Hughes (top bloke,apparently-just like he was on the TV,me dad said),Caroline Quentin,Leslie Ash (both lovely),Amanda Holden (lovely and very sexy, apparently). My dad doesn't get starstruck.....I do,all down to Brian Clough.

Just remembered another, Amanda Barrie, used to be in Coronation Street and was also in Carry on Cleo. In a pub in Manchester one night and a girl I used to know at the time was with me, she was a big fan of Corrie and asked her for her autograph, Amanda was great, nice lady

I don't think anyone will top Villain's list of faces, very impressive. My dad's sister lives in a town in Norfolk & he says she would see Dirk Bogarde about with his partner ( this would've been 1960/70s ), also my dad went to the same school ( a few years below ) as Edward De Souza of "Hearts And Minds" fame & he claims to have appeared in a school play with him.

Great post that Superclassic, nice one! Not sure meeting Macca marks me out above the riff raff but it was a slightly bizarre afternoon when it happened. After saying hello to Paul and Linda we nipped into a chemist shop a short distance away, I went in to buy some sunglasses that were on display in the window (very similar to the ones Ringo wears on the back of the Revolver LP cover), as I went up to pay for them the lady behind the counter told us that Macca had just been in and bought two pairs, one for him and one for Linda! We finished the day off by having a wander across Barnes Common to see the tree where Marc Bolan died in 1977. I'm trying to recall the names of those familiar actor's faces I saw in the boozer where my Grandad was chatting with Bernard Helpton but can't for the life of me remember who they all were! I'm not a great one for the footie, but you're meeting with the mighty Cloughie is very impressive mate Villain Edit - just remembered, another famous face I recall seeing when I lived in W6 was old school actress Patricia Hayes, she used to play Tony Hancock's 'lady wot does' in his early TV series. She was lovely, I saw her a few times walking along by the river between Hammersmith and Chiswick in the '70s. She looks tiny on the screen, in real life she was even smaller! The last time I saw her she was filming something on a small boat that was tied up on the river bank right next to the Chiswick Eyot (the small 'island' you often see in the boat race in April when the tide is out).

I met Brian Clough too. In the 80's my stepdad was a mechanic and got a call to go to a breakdown on the M1. It was the Nottingham Forest team bus on the way back from London. As I was waiting by the bus on the hard shoulder while my stepdad went to work on it, Cloughie got off came up to me and said "young man, are you a boy or a girl?", I had my ear pierced at the time. Well I went puce and took the earing out. He took me on the bus and I met some of the players and when I got off he gave me £10 and another "to give to your mum". Lovely fella, record goalscorer for Sunderland too with 63 goals in 74 games, magic!
