My father had a Bedford CA minibus that he converted to a dormobile, had some great holidays in that over the years.
Happy days.

Sounds a good thing to do. Did you have the obligatory triangular stickers in the back for places visited.

They are cool and unique. I've never liked them and still don't, even the old stuff I can't see the attraction. They all seem too 'Chris Goffey' (grey beards and leather elbow patches) for my liking. All a bit staid.

Great clip Sam and interesting what you say about the traffic being almost as bad then as now. Loved the Cortina's/Granada's too thanks for sharing!

Like the quirky Citroens like the DS and the XM but apart from those not too fussed about their older stuff and the modern stuff's no different from anything else these days.

They were good vans. I always thought they drove better than the equivalent Transit. Have some fond memories of my dad letting me drive the CF minibus into the construction shop at Riversdale College as a 14/15 year old. Happy days.

What a fantastic bit of footage Sam, many thanks for sharing that! Some choice motors amongst that lot and no mistake... an MG Midget / Austin Healey Sprite with fibreglass 'Le Mans' style front end, a foreign registered Citroen SM pulling up at the lights closely followed by a Mk1 Granada Estate and a Series 1 Jag XJ12 ('RPD 66L'), a nice close up rear view of a typical Austin FX4 Taxi with its London area reg' number ('MU', the same as my '68 Cooper S), A Lotus Elan +2, a Mk1 Capri and numerous Mk1 Escorts. The BEA double decker bus with its luggage trailor brought back memories of watching these speeding along the Great West Road on their way to and from Heathrow, they really used to shift and I always wondered how those trailors managed to stay on the road. It's certainly noticable just how many of those vehicles in the clip have 'new fangled' reflective number plates too. The last shot where the camera closes in on those brick terraces shows that they have hardly changed at all since the '70s, on previous Sweeney meets when we've driven past them they really stood out in that respect. As for the flyover itself, I think my Uncle has some b&w photos of it being built, I'll ask him next time I see him. He was a keen photographer and was always snapping around Hammersmith, Chiswick and Heathrow in his younger days. Great stuff Sam, nice one Villain Edit : I've just re-read the posts about the Citroen SM and understand that it's not everyone's cup of tea, but the Maserati V6 engine shoehorned under the bonnet and the way they drove made them very special cars back in the day. I suppose the looks are a bit 'Marmite' but I love 'em, to me they look like something from a Gerry Anderson TV series, and it's not hard to picture one parked outside Ed Straker's office in 'UFO'...
