Loved this great show about binmen when it came out in 1994 and lasted two series. A very strong cast with Edward Woodward, Tim Healy, Neil Dudgeon, Roy Hudd and Kathy Burke among others. It dealt with the day to day struggles with the management as well as personal lives. Now out on dvd I think.

That's a good reminder of a good series that I'd forgotten about BG. Thanks for that.
Gene.

Depressing to think it was 25 yrs since this was on, I can remember scenes & bits of dialogue from it.
Speaking as a Northerner I find that most of these shows & films ( 'Brassed Off', etc. ) are close to parody with dodgy accents & dialogue you never hear people say like 'chuffin' Nora!'. Having said that I would watch Common As Muck again.

I generally don't understand why tv film does that so often when many actors can't nail the accent enough for it not to show. A piece will always be better with a fair amount of a cast from the area they are depicting.
John Thaw never bothers me in the Sweeney and i never knew he hailed from Manchester for some quite some time after watching the show. The worst examples are often English actors doing an American accent or vice versa.

I do remember the series a bit at the time. Edward Woodward playing a northerner seemed a bit silly, although he did play a Scottish policeman in The Wicker Man, which seemed OK.
