Very sad news. The Cars were an excellent rock band from the 70's. Their music was, in my youth, just what I needed RIP Ric

The man is an absolute legend. He genuinely helped form our musical landscape over the last 30years creating that path from Indie to House and Techno. Very sad to learn he has passed away.

I nearly posted this myself but was not sure how many people here would know who Andrew Weatherall was - or even care
Shows what I know eh?
I was genuinely shocked by his death
A pulmonary embolism in the early hours of Monday morning at a mere 56 - truly we never know when the end might come. Carpe Diem folks.
I always liked the way AW took the road less travelled
I daresay he could have become another superstar DJ instead he always just followed his muse
The Asphodells (a group he put in 2012) are worth checking out - the usual languorous dub-disco and trippy post-punk
They only released one proper album...

That’s the good thing about this forum it draws a lot of people with common interests and also throws light on the many different things we like too. I’ve certainly appreciated – even if I don’t necessarily like, the likes and interests of others on the forum and discovered some new things along the way too. I’m sure there’s probably only a few on here who knew about and even possibly liked Andrew Weatherall’s work but still I’m sure they appreciate the post I’ve put together here and my tribute to him. Anyway, you’re absolutely right LE about Andrew taking the long road within the Dance, DJ and music scene generally and IMO good for us he did do that as many of his remixes and work like Sabres of Paradise as I said in my previous post opened up Dance Music to other influences along with allowing indie and rock to embrace it too in the 90’s. As a DJ he certainly didn’t milk the ‘Superstar DJ’ boom many of his contemporaries did rightly or wrongly – could’ve done I suppose. Would be nice if something like a BBC Four documentary got made about or featuring Andrew, perhaps the forthcoming Top of the Pops: The Story of 1990 could be revised to have much more about his work with Primal Scream featured in it, surely this has been filmed now so hopefully they’ll be come contributions from Andrew in it. Thanks for the recommendation on The Asphodells LE, I’ll check some of that out too.
Like LFO's Mark Bell who similarly died tragically/unexpectedly in 2014 Andrew will be missed by everyone with a passing interest in say alternative music, lets hope his and the legacy is continued and taken forward.

Thanks Mr Epic
Concur with everything you've said
Did you see the tribute on Newsnight with Dave Haslam
A nice little piece I thought
Here's hoping BBC4 put something a bit more substantial together

Just heard on 6 Music David Roback co-founder of Mazzy Star has died aged 61.
Sadly don't know too much about their stuff but have heard of them and their legacy in the alt-rock scene.
RIP David.

RIP David Roback, Sad news. I have a couple of Mazzy Star cds. Mainly got into them a bit after Hope Sandoval dueted with The Jesus And Mary Chain on Sometimes always.
