Hard to believe that all of these things supposedly happened for real too, that's a hell of a childhood

Well that's the series finished now and what a joy it was. Peter Kay's accent seemed a bit clunky at first but I got used to it. Danny Baker said that it wasn't the same as his Dad's but was happy enough with it as a "London" accent and it suited the character. Peter would like to be taken seriously as a comic actor (a la Ronnie Barker) and this was a good start.
I may even have to buy the book!! I wonder if there are any pictures of the real French teacher

I've just watched the last 2 episodes as I recorded them and agree that this has been a treat, loved it.
Something has sprung to mind, I guess it was set in 1974 which is when Stardust came out at the cinema and Abbas Waterloo was in the charts too, it was played at the wedding reception. The last episode flashed back a couple of times to 1949, and it struck me that, in 1974, 1949 seemed like a very long time ago, but it was actually only 25 years ago then ( I was 14 in 1974) That is the equivalent of 1990 to now, but somehow, 1990 to me doesn't seem like a very long time ago or feel that much different to today. Dunno, maybe it's just me?

Got to agree. This went from something to watch since there's nothing else on, to being unmissable tv. The David Essex's brother stuff was hilarious and slightly cringey in the way you could just imagine Danny Baker to be. Great ending to the series as well.

I've saved this series on the tivo for when i need something to watch. It does sound like good viewing which is rare on the box these days.
