I contacted Bewes initially about his part in the film "Spring & Port Wine". I met up with Len Jones who was also in it (he was in Straw Dogs and was the voice of Joe 90) a few years back and travelled up to Bolton with him to see a few of the locations used in the film. The Bolton Evening News did a piece about it too. I asked Bewes if he was interested but heard nothing. I contacted him quite a few times about the Likely Lads too but again - nothing. I contacted James Bolam about The Likely Lads and Beidderbecke and he replied within days and was very appreciative. He also included a signed photo. I'll dig it out and scan it and post it up on here.

GH. Do that Gene, would like to see that. Thanks for the additional information, appreciate it. I've only ever seen RB outside of TTL & WHTTLL in Billy Liar. I understand he did a one man show, similar to what Jim Dale is doing at the moment. Would really like to see those two sort things out but as you say, it is unlikely.

Thanks Gene, that's great. Nice touch to personalise it too.

Yes Steve it is such a shame the series never continued. That's the thing though when someone you consider a friend allegedly betrays your trust by talking behind your back. Difficult to find a way back from that unfortunately. Glad you like the picture Terry Gene.

Difficult to find a way back from that unfortunately. Glad you like the picture Terry Gene. That's true if it were the case Gene. I understood that rather clumsily, RB let slip that JB's wife was pregnant and called JB immediately to apologise but JB put the phone down and that was that. Had RB deliberately spoken behind his back then I would certainly understand but to throw away what seemed like a strong freindship over that and hold the grudge all this time seems a little strong but then I am not party to all of the information I guess and there is probably more to it and I may have got it wrong of course. As a fan, of course I am disapointed. I do think that the series was right to finish when it did and the film was certainly a full stop but I can't help but think a one off spesh would be welcome.

its down to everyone to form their own opinions as we shall probably never know the complete story. As I said, I wrote to RB many times without even receiving a courteous reply, whereas JB replied immediately. He was also very down to earth in person. Whatever it is that caused the rift must have hurt JB.
I feel that there was at least another series when Bob & Terry got older. It'll never happen though...

Nice thread this. Recall Dick Clement and Ian Le Frenais saying how they'd position a series set in current times. Terry would be a lottery winner so in luxury with no effort, whilst Bob was struggling. So a reversal of WHTLL.
I can hear Bob now saying 'Unfair, just so unfair'.

Interesting to hear this chat about the show ???? I live in Newcastle and love the programme myself as well and if you listen to the chat about rb and jb that jb has the reputation of being the villain concerning stopping the re runs etc !
I have been around all the locations where the show was filmed for photos for another forum ,and was talking to the owners of the house that was used as the guest house in the film and talking about their memories of when the filming took place . The general consensus was rb was the more approachable out of the two!! I actually live a two minute walk from where the flats were where Bob had his chevette wheels nicked at the start of the film lol Great show
