What's the verdict on Mr S?
Negatives out of the way first:- When I Need You seemed to be "I fancy a new Jag. I'll get something from Albert Hammond & Carole Bowl-of-Sago, as everything they write turns to gold" Have You Ever Been In Love?, Orchard Road - time to upgrade the Jag and churn out some more sloppy ballads. The positives - Long Tall Glasses, Moonlighting, One Man Band etc - I always thought Leo was a great songwriter who told a story in most of his work. I can instantly picture the busker on Ladbroke Grove in the latter and Moonlighting leaves me wondering if the cops ever did eventually discover the blue Morris van had been resprayed and if the couple did stay together in the end. I have a lot of time for the guy.

Yeah, never bought any of his music, but his songs are quite recognisable and "You make me feel like dancing" is a party favourite. A few of his others I know; One Man Band; Didn't realise it was released as far back as 1974. Remember it (a few years later) from being played on the radio on the morning I was starting my new Secondary school - and it was an earworm all day when I was trying to get used to the new school.....
More than I can Say from 1980, was played a fair bit by Terry Wogan on his Radio 2 morning show, and that was a cover of a song originally by The Crickets originally released in 1960.

I caught the last half of a radio interview with Leo Sayer last weekend. He is 75 now !Of course he would have to be but it still surprised me when I heard. He sounded like he had as much enthusiasm and interest in music than ever before. He always seemed to be very talkative (back on Countdown years ago).
He is releasing some new music soon that are songs that he wrote and recorded in 1992 but never released.
The radio station played some snippets of his songs. He had a lot of hits and though I wasn't a big fan back then I think I can appreciate the song writing and musical skill more now when I hear the songs.
