Just remembered one of two more
Kalin Twins When, think Showaddywaddy covered this later. This was the original, late 50s B Bumble and the Stingers Nut Rocker Lena Martell One day at a time. Thankfully no follow up, this was awful! Charlene I've never been to me Las Ketchup The Ketchup song
Some of those are quite bad. The only decent one there IMO is the Charlene track

The Maisonettes, Heartache Avenue and Mari Wilson, Just what I always wanted, both from late 82
Also, no one has yet mentioned.......The worst record EVER made....I couldn't even tolerate one second of it before hitting the mute button....it kept the brilliant Vienna by Ultravox off number 1 early in 81......

It was a hit but not a wonder Seriously it's a fun novelty record but what possessed the public to buy that in such huge numbers

Five years later... But not strictly a one hit wonder, as there was another minor hit later in the year. The 'Chicken Song' by Spitting Image also kept the classic 'On My Own' by Patti LaBelle & Michael McDonald off the top spot in 1986. Vi

The Maisonettes, Heartache Avenue and Mari Wilson, Just what I always wanted, both from late 82 Loved these, particularly The Maisonettes sounding like an authentic Northern soul song from the early 60s. A couple that come to mind from 1979 and 1980 - Viola Wills - Gonna Get Along Without You Now and Stephanie Mills - Never Knew Love Like This Before. From the mid 70s Melba Moore - This Is It which still gets airplay and is used on a current TV ad, though she didn't really do anything else.

All good calls Nightfly I still have my single of Heartache Avenue by The Maisonettes. I was however unaware that Laurence 'Lol' Mason died at home in Harbourne in July 2019 aged just 69 from a heart attack. Heartache Avenue indeed! Not a lot of people know that Lol also co wrote and performed secondary vocals on the 1978 track 5.7.0.5. by the band City Boy. Gene.
