I always liked this one from James which for some unknown (and wrong) reason was just outside the Top 40 in 1990, probably some crap artist was being hyped instead of them!

This is interesting, the period 1976-80 I am practically an encyclopedia on chart music, I can remember even obscure minor hits, take me 10-12 years forward to the late 80s/early and mid 90s and I know virtually nothing.
DE, on the other hand, is brilliant on this period.
This is part of why this is such a great forum and a great source of reference

This album is FAC 138
It contains the wonderful Hymn From A Village which some of you may remember (it's in my factory top ten minus JD/NO)....

OMD's first single was FAC 6, another one that makes my top ten minus JD/NO...

Also I'm going with Electronic ā āGetting Away With Itā (FAC 257)
Seven more to go, inspired idea DE
Actually five as, like you DE, I have to include the wonderful Moody and splendid Shack Up...
Electronic ā āGetting Away With Itā

All very good selections LE. I sort of excluded the likes of OMD (who are brilliant) and the New Order side projects as they're quite well known and Electronic were arguably the best and most successful of these. Even A Certain Ratio were borderline for me to include but not many know how important and influential they were to the punk funk sound and for me they're a key foundation in the Manchester music history as much as the more usual suspects. ACR, 52nd Street and Section 25 and even The Durutti Column deserved to have had bigger success (including financially!) than they had maybe/maybe not due to Factory's questionable business model but that business model enabled them to enjoy the underground success and recognition they have gained a few decades on from when these tracks came out and generally I wouldn't have things any other way with how Factory mapped out a path for Manchester's music and media future.

Yes keep them coming LE. This one from Electronic just sums up everything I liked (and felt/still feel) from that period (1987-92) in one track.

I don't know a lot on these lists but I do know Electronic ā āGetting Away With Itā and the early OMD track Electricity. I must admit I didn't know OMD were on the label.
