Sam Tyler will probably remember it well though! 😁 The Saint Indeed I do! Blimey, you are all making me feel old! I was 18 in the April of 77! Same here mate! I was 17 in January 77!😀 Crumbs! Two people even older than me! I was 15 years old at the time and where we lived we had a playing field with a scout hut so instead of a street party there was a fete with numerous stands for food, drink or events to have a go at. One of the challenges was a bicycle where the handlebars were geared at the headstock such that turning the bars left turned the wheel to the right (and vice-versa of course). Very tricky but after a couple of attempts I managed to get going on it. Apart from the televised stuff there wasn't much else going on and being as it was 'only' 25 years people seemed abit more blasé about it as it wouldn't have compared to this year's Platinum Anniversary. Sam.

Also something imbedded into my brain whenever anyone mentions the Silver Jubilee is seeing Herbie Flowers perform this song on TOTP. Herbie of course being a respected session musician, member of Blue Mink, Marc Bolan's bassist in Marc's later years and the guy who played the iconic bassline on Lou Reed's Walk On The Wild Side. But what on earth was he thinking with this one ? (see how long you can last).... I don't remember that one but another that stuck in my mind was this one from Neil Innes: It was an 'earworm' for one of my mates and he kept singing the chorus over and over for days on end after that appeared on TOTP. I was at primary school, about all I can recall is each of us were given a red leather bookmark with gold lettering, also got a blue one for Charles & Diana's wedding which I still have. The year of Star Wars being released, a strong memory from then is getting packets of Star Wars bubble gum cards from the local newsagent. Herbie clearly went bananas the day he conceived that nonsense
The pupils at my primary school got a Jubilee mug.

I wasn't even born at the time I do like looking back at some of the Silver Jubilee photographs and videos. I love the Silver treatment London Transport gave to 25 Routemaster buses. First street party I remember was the 1981 royal wedding.
