Any memories of this?
Not many for me of the Jubilee itself, lots of that summer in general.
Not sure Adam Lambert was the best substitute for Freddie in Queen on the show last night, Rod wasn't impressive either.

Sam Tyler will probably remember it well though! 😁 The Saint

Similar to TL really, loads of (great) memories of the summer of 77, but none really of the silver jubilee. We didn't have any street parties or anything, I didn't really take much notice of it. All that comes to mind is the Sex pistols God save the queen being banned by the BBC and Greater Manchester Transport painting a few Atlantean buses in silver and purple.
Agree on Rod, he wasn't good, although Diana Ross and Alicia Keys were

Any memories of this? Not many for me of the Jubilee itself, lots of that summer in general. Like yourself and Carty, I remember the summer well but not a great deal about the Jubilee. I don't remember our school particularly going out of its way to decorate the walls with flags etc and no street parties on our street. The annual village gala was moved a week later to Jubilee week and they got Geoff Druett from Yorkshire TV to open it (no doubt Richard Whiteley was otherwise engaged). That was about it. The Sex Pistols single being kept off the number one slot by Rod springs to mind. Also something imbedded into my brain whenever anyone mentions the Silver Jubilee is seeing Herbie Flowers perform this song on TOTP. Herbie of course being a respected session musician, member of Blue Mink, Marc Bolan's bassist in Marc's later years and the guy who played the iconic bassline on Lou Reed's Walk On The Wild Side. But what on earth was he thinking with this one ? (see how long you can last)....

Although we didn't have a street party in my street, my primary school at the time did have a Jubilee party at the time, and we had the usual Jelly and Ice Cream I think and we all had to go to a special assembly with Red, White and Blue rosettes on, with the hall decorated, but can't remember much else. Apart from a Jubilee themed day out we went to in St Albans and me and my dad went on motor passenger boat on a lake at a park there. Our family got a burger and chips meal later, (when Burgers meals weren't too common then in the UK apart from Wimpy bars).

I was at primary school, about all I can recall is each of us were given a red leather bookmark with gold lettering, also got a blue one for Charles & Diana's wedding which I still have. The year of Star Wars being released, a strong memory from then is getting packets of Star Wars bubble gum cards from the local newsagent. Herbie clearly went bananas the day he conceived that nonsense

It's a pity all the Sex Pistols that weren't dead couldn't get over their differences and sail down the Thames doing God Save the Queen again this evening.

I remember we had a party in a nearby field close to a garden centre. I seemed to remember playing 'pass the parcel' and winning a prize, but I can't recall what it was. It was just a few days before my eighth birthday! Apparently it was pretty cool and wet during June 1977.
