I was sadened to read that David McKee, the Mr Benn and Elmer author has died aged 87
RIP Mr Benn was a staple of my childhood Anyone remember Joe? Similar lo-fi effort from the BBC More about it here....
Here is an episode that escaped being wiped....
I remember being both bored and creeped out by Joe as a child - it's still pretty blimmin boring innit?
There was a lot of weird children's TV in the 70s
What programmes come to your mind?

I don't remember 'Joe' at all, as told by Colin 'Leonard Gold' Jeavons. Quite a dull watch but nice drawings by Joan 'not the actress best known for 'Miss Marple'' Hickson. Odd how some of the characters drop their aitches, I can imagine parents complaining that it taught their children to not speak proper.

Animal Kwackers always intrigued me. It seemed that YTV thought it would be a good idea to combine Rainbow with The Banana Splits, but succeeded in making the costumes look particularly scary.
Why not through in a cover version of Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds for good measure ?

Missed all of these treats, as I started secondary school in 71 and didn't get back home until the late afternoon kids stuff had finished.
One which I do remember, for some odd reason (must have been on just before the news came on) was a cartoon called Roobarb, about a green dog.

That was a good cartoon, and Richard Briers was an excellent choice as the narrator.

I found this clip about the story of Roobarb. Interesting to hear that animator Bob Godfrey used felt pen/markers to draw everything and the inconsistency between the shading created a wobbly effect which added to the action. I have to say that I prefer this style of animation over the precise art of Disney etc. Mrs Nightfly has the Roobarb theme tune as a ringtone, whereas I have the 70s LWT jingle as mine. A real pair of retro 70s anoraks.
