My word, what a genuine masterpiece!!
This BBC play from 1981 is really very special indeed...
In a very different role from what we would normally expect Norman Wisdom truly shines!! Fulton Mackay gives an unbelievable performance also.
This is not an easy watch but it is both compelling and emotional and there are some moments of wry humour (but only some!) throughout...
I urge you to watch it if you haven't already!!

I watched this some years ago on yt & found it very depressing mostly due to Fulton MacKay's character, a nasty man full of self pity who abuses the hospital staff & bullies Wisdom's gentle character. Interestingly the director Stephen Frears cast another comedy actor, Jack Douglas, in his 1980 film 'Bloody Kids'.
An interesting play, a negative take on terminal illness, today the programme commissioners would want it to be an uplifting story with a positive spin. Having seen my dad decline firsthand in the bedroom next to mine, aware that he is dying & not taking it well at all, I know that not everyone greets death philosophically like in a Hollywood film. We hope our loved ones die 'peacefully' & go gently, well regretably not everyone does & this play shows that.

Another good review AP.

Interesting cast, I've added it to my crazy long watch list.
