Thin Ice was filmed between 19th & 30th August 1974 according to the book that comes with the series 1 blu ray. Below is a scan I did of the Thin Ice pages, some interesting background info here. I appreciated this episode much more seeing it on blu ray, the sunny exteriors in particular really benefit from the HD treatment & you get a much better sense of atmosphere as the audio quality is a big improvement over the dvd version.

When was series 1 filmed? It was shown early in 75 and the early episodes has a summery feel so assume summer 74? According to the book that accompanied the Blu-ray release, filming started in late April 1974 with Ringer and finished in late November with Cover Story.

It's a good informative booklet Arthur and it was a nice touch by Andrew Pixley to acknowledge myself and Sam (as well as a few others) in that book for our work in identifying locations throughout the series. What a shame Series 2-4 didn't follow. The extremely outdated and inaccurate location list from a previous forum would not serve Pixley at all well should he ever take on the task. He'd be well advised to make contact on here to access what is a far more accurate resource. Gene.

I’m struggling slightly more with this one, and I can’t really tell you why. I’m having to re-watch it.
I’m still surprised Reagan is a DI. Their DCI is an awful lot less hands on than er Sam’s and mine.
Morgan? Norton? Can’t help but think that these names aren’t just coincidence!
“Are there any other human beings in the building?” “No”
Incidental music which sounded like Jetheo Tull! But could have just been incidental.
I did enjoy the argument/discussion about the tracker and Regan’s considered opinion.
Do we know where the overseas hideout was filmed? It just doesn’t give me the impression that it’s actually very warm! I’m predicting the south east!
A fairly predictable mix up/ switch with the dogs (not how it happened, but that it happened) and Moose is a caricature of a character isn’t he? but hey ho. Still enjoyable to watch.
£500 for the tracker. What would that have got you in 1975?
The endings of episodes still take me by surprise. They’re very understated!

Bishops overseas place was Binfield Manor in Bracknell.
Gene.

Bishops overseas place was Binfield Manor in Bracknell. Gene. Not a bad guess, then, Guv. Do I get to be a detective?

I've just rewatched this one
It is one of the more knockabout, jokey episodes but still quite enjoyable
I suspect they were having a bit of fun with this one.....
Alfred Marks as Bishop plays it straight but all the props around him are ludicrous - the trophy Marilyn Monroe-esque girlfriend, 20 or so candles when he's having dinner in France, the gold telephones, the telescope by the swimming pool, constantly smoking cigars etc.
Brian Glover at the Moose playing his mentally challenged henchman for comedy value
The electronic tracking device on the tea trolley - there's actually a continuity mistake here. Carter returns it to Haskins "good as new guv" and then in the next scene he gives it to Regan and says what should I do with it, to which Regan replies stick it on the bottom of the tea trolley.Guessing one of those scenes was meant to be removed in the edit. Probably the one with Carter and Haskins.
Good to see Brian Wilde (always Mr Barraclough to me and most others) as an accountant trying to advise Bishop on going straight with a share issue whilst the nonsense with the dog is all going on
And of course Peter Jeffrey's Superintendent Pringle who is a bit of an idiot, and just a foil for Jack's more streetwise approach.
Fun but certainly not one of the best
