This is only the second car show that I have attended in 2021. Car shows started up again in October.
The setting is as important for the cars attempting the hill climb as it is for the spectator. Set high surrounded by hills you reach it by a thin winding dirt road that requires a sharp turn into the gates or else you'll be driving for a long time until you can find a place to turn back.
It has lovely green views and you feel away from the world up there.
It is run by the MGCC and a small donation of $10- to the CFA (Country Fire Authority) will get you through the gates as a spectator. The volunteers and members of the MG club are on the elderly side but gosh do they work hard for their club. The elderly woman at the gate just charged me $5- (as I'd arrived halfway through the day) and her fellow helper hosed the road in front of my car to stop the dust whirling.
The weather was warmer than expected. It should have been only 23 Celsius but it felt like 28 C out in the sun with little shade around, unless you were prepared to stand under the bbq area where sausages and bread and cold drinks in ice were doing a roaring trade.
Of course I was prepared with my recently purchased Dan Ricciardo cap. (I'd noticed that McLaren F1 has had different driver caps for Dan each race when he is just being interviewed, and the Texas floral blue and pink cap with a 3 on it for Dan R appealed to me. Mind you I liked the Mexico one with skulls on it too but at $70- a cap I had to draw the line at one!)
Those with their cars attempting the climb had tent shades and small awnings dotted around the edges of the track.
Most years there has been other car clubs displaying their cars but not so many this year but a cracking turn out of families with a lot of young drivers giving it a go.

That looks like an asbolutely wonderful day out Batgirl. So far removed from England right now as we are in the grip of freezing temperatures and snow. Thanks for taking and posting the photos for us to see. Gene.

Looks like a great day out BG, so cold here right now. Show us your cap! I don't even follow McLaren but if Dan Ricciardo is wearing it, I want it. It nearly killed me when he drove for Renault. I bought the blue/pink floral cap called the US GP cap.

I like the orange 2 door coupe, Opel Manta? Out here it is called a Holden LC Torana GTR XU-1. It's an iconic car in Australia as it won the Bathurst 500 in 1972. They were the real competition for Cortinas being more popular and many on the road.

It's a cracking example of a Torana. Looks great in the Orange. That really looks a good event Batgirl. I love to see the old motors do these hill climbs, always good fun.

Thanks for the pictures Batgirl - some wonderful views there to go with the cars, together with the splended pre war cars. Nice to see a detailed pic of the Torana GT XU-1 - probably the Australian GM branches answer at the time to the sporty smaller Vauxhall saloon we had here at the time - the Magnum, based on the Viva. (When Vauxhall was part of GM too).

Looks like a great day out and I'd happily swap places with you BG. It has been many years since I've been to a hillclimb but I do remember how the drivers would be so committed to get their time irrespective of the car that they were driving that twice I saw cars ending up on their roof or completely rolling over and back onto their wheels. Certainly not something I would be pushing my luck with! There's some nice motors there but the one that ticks the nostalgia box for me is the blue Anglia, that takes me back to the early '80s and Annie's parents giving us a blue Anglia because her father didn't want Annie to continue riding pillion on my bike. Thanks for posting. Sam.
