Today marks 30 years since the death of Freddie Mercury due to AIDS related pneumonia so I thought fitting that we here on 4:3TV acknowledge the music and legacy that he left. Much may be said of his lifestyle but there's no doubt that his music and stage persona has continued to live on.
Only last night I was watching a recent My5 broadcast: "Freddie Mercury: In His Own Words" which raised the fact to me that today was the anniversary off his passing. The documentary was the usual fare of many talking heads about Freddie interspersed with some clips of Freddie himself being interviewed. It was 'okay' if not rather lame as a potted history of the man himself together with the growth of the group right up until his passing.
For me the group had it's inevitable peaks and troughs, it's hits and misses, and to top it all the much lauded performance at Live Aid in 1985 but there's no doubt the ongoing impact the group and in particular Freddie Mercury continues to have for many.
Their first chart success:
R.I.P. Freddie

Amazing that it's 30 years. I can remember it like it was yesterday. He passed away on a Sunday & I remember exactly where I was working at the time and the following day it was nothing but Queen on the radio at work. An amazing talent that was and still is so missed.
Gene.

For me the best performance and band at live aid! with just the Equal caveat of U2 singing Bad’… it was such a great stint and considering he had a dodgy throat at the time! Freddie still, had the audience in his hands! Wish I could have gone to that concert, and remember it so clear as yesterday on the tele, and had to settle for that! but what a concert it was to get ya in the mood before going the pub later on.. Hammer to fall was the best buzz!! I hate to think about how quickly time as gone by! It’s awful, unfortunately the only remedy for this is for me to go to more 80s festivals, but how good would it have been though to see queen live still, all these years on!
