I read in the news that Michael Caine is finally hanging up his boots when it comes to making films, but will concentrate on writing. But what an amazing career he has had. He his so adaptable which, unlike a lot of actors, as enabled him to continue to make films well into his twilight years. What I like about him is his strong character and personality which is seen in all of his films and the characters he portrays. He knows where he's going, he is always in control, even when the odds are against him and the chips are down. This is what makes him so interesting and exciting to watch. This can be evidently seen in Get Carter. I do hope he's around for a long time yet, and doesn't suffer any further health problems..

I saw an interview with Caine when he was promoting the 60s documentary My Generation. In it he mentioned that he's made approximately 30 films since he retired the first time. This time he probably will take it easy but I wouldn't bet against seeing him pop up in a future roll.

Well there are reports now saying he’s not retired but work is drying up. I’m pleased that Michael’s quality of film took a decided upward turn around the millennium after years of variable quality. Films like Last Orders, Cider House Rules, The Quiet American gave him a second wind that was both refreshing and joyous to see.

Great actor, Zulu is an excellent film and I like the interplay between him and Stanley Baker. I hope he gets more work that suits his age, he could still make a blinding film.
