Two equals for the top spot for me, both are by that wonderful, much missed genius John Barry - Goldfinger (with good old Burley Chassis doing the vocal honours of course) and OHMSS. Almost twenty years ago I bought John's 'Themology' compilation which as well as the main Bond themes has some excellent incidental / instrumental tracks backing them up. Anyone who hasn't got this album should really give it a go, it also has the themes from The Persuaders, The Ipcress File and The Knack which are all fantastic.
(The Persuaders track is the full two minute version taken from the original soundtrack tapes before they were lost, whereas the shorter version on the 'Music Of ITC' compilation is taken from a video recording and doesn't sound as good. The fact that The Persuaders tapes were lost accounts for there being very little material available, whereas most of the other ITC themes and incidental tracks are complete and fully available on CD today).

I hope most of you have seen Spectre now and so have heard Writing's on the Wall in context with the opening titles. No doubt at all it works and will sit well in the Bond theme cannon in the years to come.
The passing of time does affect how we view these songs. Sheena Easton's For Your Eyes Only was slaughtered at the time, it had been chosen ahead of a Blondie song of the same name, but we love it now.
Worst for me are Madonna's Die Another Day and Lulu's Man With The Golden Gun.
Personal favourites are Nancy Sinatra's You Only Live Twice, Rita Coolidge's All Time High and Matt Monro's From Russia With Love.

I saw Spectre last weekend and for me the worst part of it was the theme tune at the start. Each to their own.

The moment when Bond levels out the helicopter and we get a John Barry style orchestral link into the theme and the opening titles was terrific. The orchestral link was the hook from Sam Smiths song. That for a split second I thought it was classic Barry tells me Smith nailed it. Great movies though man, with lots of references to Bonds gone by.

Yes, it's not so much the song, just his bloody voice! Enjoyed the film though and will get the DVD when it comes out (so I can ffw past the titles) Gene.

Did anyone see on ITV last night, The Nations Favourite Bond Song ? No. 1 was Adele ??? Is this because the average ITV viewer today cannot think past the previous James Bond theme ? I think we need a 4:3TV poll on this Saint

I had a strange feeling that Adele was going to be at no.1,because she is such a big noise at the moment. Now although I don't mind her theme to 'Skyfall',I don't think it's the best Bond theme.Adeles' ok in my eyes:she's caught the breeze, and she's floating on it very nicely.
