I have just heard the sad news that the actor/writer Ron Moody has died aged 91.

Very sad news. R.I.P Ron.
Now reviewing the situation again with Oliver Reed no doubt.

One of the one and only actors who ever appeared in episodes of Starsky & Hutch and Last Of The Summer Wine.
(Unless Burt Kwouk had a cameo as Huggy Bear's wacky Chinese mate that I missed)
A fine actor and an impressive CV of works to leave behind. But alas has probably already been overshadowed by the news of the loss of another fine, but definitely larger in stature and gravitas actor of similar age.
RIP Ron, and indeed Sir Christopher.

Ron was great in Oliver. I'd love to have seem him playing Fagin on stage. So many of the people we're losing these days are irreplaceble. R.I.P.

'Oliver!' is a very atmospheric musical. I always find it a compelling watch.
RIP Ron Moody.

One more piece about Oliver. I was listening to an interview with Ron on BBC radio the other day, and he said that he was lucky to get the part of Fagin as the producers of the stage production very much wanted Max Bygraves to play the part. Can you imagine that ?

Seriously, I can't think of anyone but Ron as Fagin. He made the character his own. Wonderful performance.

I can imagine that Max Bygraves could be considered, because of his Cockney persona & singing voice.
But it wouldn't have been right - too well known as a light entertainer. Fagin might not have been Fagin - he would have been Max Bygraves.
