I recorded this earlier in the week and just watched it. It was a compilation of various artists from Manchester between the 60s and the 00s, with some good archive performance footage. It was a bit mixed and there were a couple of big names missed out, who should, in my opinion, have featured, like Take That and the Bee Gees. It started with the Hollies (very good) then Freddie and The Dreamers (crap) from the 60s. The 70s were 10cc, Sweet Sensation and The Buzzcocks, the 80s New Order.
It focused quite a bit on DEs era of the late 80s and early 90s, the Madchester stuff with the Stone Roses, The Monday's which I enjoyed, then something by a bloke called A Guy called Gerald, which I thought was garbage. Finally, Oasis, who I always enjoy with one of my favourite songs, Don't look back in anger.
The last bit was a group who I hadn't heard of before, the Ting Tings, with a really catchy, slightly punky song called That's not my name.

Very musically productive area, the northwest, what with Liverpool and Manchester.

Thanks for the tip
I enjoyed it including The Fall and The Smiths who were both wonderful
Less taken with it from M People onwards
All in all - splendid

By the way I've had this tune stuck in my head for 24 hours.
Perhaps the most unlikely pop group ever and what a performance on Blue Peter in 1964....

Less taken with it from M People onwards The thing which always irked me about M People were they were/are fairly talented musicians who made quite bland music... more so as the Dance orientated stuff became more and more watered down bland pop. (No disrespect to any fans on here) but I suppose M People are similar to the likes of Simply Red, Lighthouse Family etc. from that period, completely inoffensive yet dull as if you like things a bit (lot) more unpredictable.
It was a good programme and I made a cut and paste of the bits of it I liked... yes that did include A Guy Called Gerald etc. but also things like Magazine, John Cooper Clarke, 10CC and Buzzcocks too. I also liked the Tony Wilson interview pre-Joy Division's performance too.
It should still be on iPlayer for a wee while too.

That absolutely nails my objections too DE
Mike Pickering really should have been able to come up with something better
