Found this vid of Bus racing. They are using ex London Transport DMS's one of which i note is a N plate so would of only been 7 year old here and already retired. Wasting taxpayers money is nowt new then.

London transport withdrew the DMS buses quite quickly because they didn't fit into their overhaul technique of separating the body and chassis, although no other operators ever felt it necessary to do this. Most ended up at the Purfleet dealer, Ensign, who sold quite a lot on to other fleets, Greater Manchester got 20 of them, which came via Lancashire United when they took LUT over in 1981

I remember them as a kid. They had a quirky early rapid pay entry system that was removed after a short time. It was a bit like an automatic gate on the tube. They had an interesting aluminium and blue moquette interior. The bus that replaced the majority of them was a real winner the MCW Metrobus were an improvement all round on the DMS. Even these though didn't trouble the Routemaster.

Interesting and thanks Del, never knew they tried that back in the early 80's, although I'm sure there's been some "Banger bus" races too before, and then there was Top Gear's silly stuff where a bus just fell over on it side. I'm sure the 2nd place bus was a P reg, so even younger. I remember seeing them in London when going on visits with my dad and brother, and wondered why they still had non reflective white on black number plates after L re (when all the other vehicles had by law to have reflective plates).

A nice sequence from the pilot episode of Hart to Hart.
Two great looking motors, although I prefer the Mercedes (and its driver!)

It was a 1979 450SL, apparently the car now resides in Germany. Jennifer Hart MercedesThe Saint

So that's how they met.
There used to be a forum member from Scotland with the same Merc, I remember he posted some photos of it & I think he mentioned watching Hart To Hart as a reason for wanting one, I think he got rid of it though, bit of a hairdresser's motor isn't it, especially in Scotland.
Oddly enough I saw a bit of an episode a few days ago on the Sony Channel, it's on tomorrow at 2pm & 3pm.
